Yeah, not this girl.

I still haven’t watched any of the seventh season, which hurts my heart, it really does, but when House actually got with Cuddy, I immediately lost interest, and from everything I’ve heard and everything I’ve read, I saved myself from a major shit show. But alas, the magical allure of Hugh Laurie calls to me constantly, and it will only be a matter of time before I suck it up and make my way through the last season. Sadly, I don’t think it’ll happen in time to see House be awesome and make friends in jail.

I know I’ve asked before, but this just tears me up inside: can someone please give me a reason to watch the last season, or this upcoming season, or anything past that beautiful first episode of the sixth season? If you can’t, can we just look back fondly on the first few seasons and remember the glory of bygone times?

… Because it looks like the eighth season will be the last. For real this time. Here’s what the amazing Hugh Laurie had to say:

“The end of that season, right now looks like the end of the show. Well, that’s as far as they’ve got me for. I never thought this would last seven years, just two weeks I thought. I get tired of getting up at four in the morning. Some days are harder than others.”

What with Hugh’s waning interest and Robert Sean Leonard’s yearning for Broadway, it feels appropriate that this upcoming season is the end.  That way, Hugh can focus on making beautiful music, Olivia Wilde can focus on being hot, and the rest of the cast can follow their dreams.  It’s a win-win.

Also, I haven’t been able to watch anything past the first episode of this current season.  As much as it pains me to say, House just seems to have gone so far downhill since about midway through the sixth season or so.  Am I wrong, have magical things been happening that I’ve been missing? Because based on nothing but intuition and reviews, I feel like that little clip above has been the best moment of the season. Let me know what you guys think, ok?

First The Office, now this.

Hugh Laurie’s contract is up at the end of the next season of House, and he doesn’t know what’s going to happen after that.  When asked about how much longer the amazing show will go, he said

“I have no idea. I only hope we’ll know when the time is right [to close up shop]. When people blunder on for five years after [they should have called it quits]… it gets taken out of your hands. Someone will say, ‘That’s it.’”

He’s also said that he’s open to continuing on after his contract is up, and that next season sometime they’ll decide whether or not House needs to be over.

Ok, I love House.  It’s kind of a problem.  And I know there’s the worry about jumping the shark and turning into shit, but I really don’t think that’s the case right now with House.  I’ve been catching up on the latest season, so I don’t know everything that’s happened in the later half, but from what I hear, the finale was pretty phenomenal. And come on, if Steve Carell leaves The Office and Supernatural gets cancelled next year, that’s already more heartbreak than I can take.

I feel like I’m talking a friend off a window ledge.  ”You have so much to live for, House, please don’t do this!  Think of all the happiness you’ll never see!  Don’t leave me like this!”

A photo of Lisa Edelstein and Hugh Laurie

Lisa Edelstein, better known as Cuddy from House, has always rooted for a romance between her character and Laurie’s.  You can’t really blame her – you know a large percentage of House viewers want to bang him – but Lisa’s a little vocal about it.  After the finale of the sixth season, which hinted at an actual relationship between the two, she hasn’t been holding back:

“I think they need to go for it!”

Cute, right?  Yeah, that’s cool, but then she went on to talk about Laurie specifically:

“We get on great, he’s such a fun guy, and a sexy guy too! He’s funny and smart, and, to top it all, he’s tall, he has beautiful eyes.”

“I think his character’s brilliant. He solves all these problems and saves people from dying, which everybody would like to be able to do. But at the same time he has all this freedom to say whatever he wants to say to people, there’s no editing.”

We get it, Lisa, you’re a total House fangirl, and usually there’s nothing wrong with that.  But if you want to fangirl that much over someone you know, you have to be a little more discreet.  Either that, or just go ahead and tap that.  Ain’t nobody gonna judge you, Lisa, you just do what you have to do.

I sure hope, for my own peace of mind, that these rumors aren’t true.

24, starring Kiefer Sutherland, has been one of my favorite shows. Of all time.  And this is coming from someone who doesn’t even watch TV.

Insiders at Fox are claiming that the show’s 10-year run is quickly coming to a close. According to Nielsen,  the show’s ratings have consistently dropped over the past few years and the show’s executives allegedly state that it’s becoming far too expensive to produce with lagging ratings and lack of viewership.

However, whether this is true or not, 24 addicts are sure to be left with a warm and fuzzy feeling — Sutherland, who is also one of the show’s executive producers, has been in talks to implement the long-running television drama for a shot at the silver screen.  Again.

24‘s famed ticking-clock sound effect isn’t reserved only for this show; American Idol canned Paula this past season and now the show’s lifeblood, Simon Cowell, ticks down his last days on Idol, this year, too.  Talks of Howard Stern joining the show haven’t panned out and it seems that the Fox-run American Idol is on the rocks these days more than anything else.

What’s next, cancelling House? Excuse me while I go slit my wrists, Fox.

Did you guys watch the House season premiere on Monday night? I know I did, and it looks like about 16.5 million other people did the same. Hugh Laurie (sans the rest of his crew) ruled the first night back for the networks, drowning Heroes and Dancing with the Stars in lower-than-expected numbers. The competition also seemed to impact Jay Leno’s show, which brought in roughly one-third of its week-earlier premiere-night numbers, and posting its lowest ratings so far.

Soooo, what did you guys think of the House premiere? I liked it, I guess, but I wasn’t as excited about it AFTER I watched it as I was before. I felt a lot of the psych-ward situations and dialogue were implausible, and I felt it dragged a bit. Plus, House just isn’t as fun without his team around him. It made me realize how much of an ensemble drama the show really is. It just didn’t work right without the rest of the cast. Luckily, they’ll all be back next week, and I’ll definitely be tuning in again. We’ll see if the rest of the country does the same.
