Paging Law & Order! I hope you’re getting to work on this ripped-from-the-headlines script, because there are some fascinating development in the mysterious death of David Carradine:
Now we know why David Carradine’s family thinks foul play may have been involved in the actors death — his manager tells us Carradine was found with his hands tied behind his back.
Chuck Binder, Carradine’s manager, tells us he firmly believes Carradine did not take his own life — nor does he think David died accidentally. Binder says the family has been told Carradine’s hands were immobilized by the rope.
Carradine was found by a hotel maid Thursday morning with a rope tied around his neck and another around his genitals in a Bangkok hotel room.
The Thai police are now admitting that his death may not have been a suicide, although they say there is no evidence of anyone else in the room at the time of his death. The theory, of course, is that Carradine was engaging in autoerotic asphyxiation, a dangerous kind of sex play.
Pornthip Rojanasunand, director of Thailand’s Central Institute of Forensic Science, said the circumstances suggested that Carradine may have died performing auto-erotic asphyxiation, which is said to result in a form of giddiness and euphoria — similar to alcohol or drug intoxication — that enhances the sexual experience.
“In some cases it can suggest murder, too. But sometimes when the victim is naked and in bondage, it can suggest that the victim is doing it to himself,” said Pornthip, who is considered the country’s top criminal forensics expert but who did not take part in the autopsy. “If you hang yourself by the neck, you don’t need so much pressure to kill yourself. Those who get highly sexually aroused tend to forget this fact.”
Oh, man. I just don’t know what to say about this. From what I’ve heard, I’m gonna go ahead and back the autoerotic asphyxiation theory. It’s not at all uncommon for this kind of sex play to result in accidental death. My guess, though, is that there was someone else in the room with him, who bolted after David died. The suicide theory doesn’t make sense here — no one kills themselves with a rope around their genitals.
