Today's Evil Beet Gossip

Oh, Christ. Is This The New Rebecca Black?

Ark Music Factory, the same company that produced Rebecca Black‘s “Friday,” has struck semi-gold once again with another on of their clients. This time it’s 14-year-old Alana Lee’s “Butterflies.”

Never heard of her? Well then you’re probably not Australian. “Butterflies,” with absolutely zero promotion or radio play, is slowly crawling up the Australian iTunes charts and is currently the 124th most sold single this week. That might not sound particularly impressive, but as PopTrashAddicts pointed out, Kylie Minoge‘s latest record didn’t even crack the top 200. And she’s like, from there.

For some reason this song offends me so much less than “Friday” does and (kill me) I actually think the video is pretty cute. You know, for what it is.

What do you think of this track? Is it better or worse than Rebecca Black’s song and do you think that either of these “artists” have potential to stick around past their first hit?

  • It’s cute middle school pop for kids. Harmless tune about first love. However, why does anybody over the age of 20 need to pay any attention to either tune?

    • Usually it’s people over the age of 20 who are in charge of raising these teenagers you speak of, so I think that’s important for people to at least be aware. Also, this is kind of news at this point, what with the Friday video having over 70 million views on it and all. I certainly wont purchase/emotionally invest in this music, but to be aware of it is something completely different.

  • On The Suckage Scale it’s somewhere between Rebecca Black and Justin Bieber, although Justin can actually sing so there’s kind of a big gap going on there.

  • I highly recommend you watch Jenna Rose’s “My Jeans” produced by Ark Music Factory. Her lisp obviously gets autotuned out. She is far worse than RBizzle or Alana Lee

  • that ke$ha-type ending ruins it! otherwise it’s just cute and age appropriate…not like becca black’s speeding on the highway dangling out of the convertible and PARTYING PARTYING all fucking night

  • I actually heard this immediately after the whole damn Rebecca B. shit went down, and felt this song, while still a crappy pop song, was LOADS, LOADS better than that Friday shit. If this had gone viral instead I don’t think I’d feel like shooting my computer screen every day.

    • Me, too! I watched this the day Rebecca Black stormed the Internet (two weeks ago?) as part of my half-hour of YouTube Ark Music Factory research.

      It’s totally cute.
