This Is Not How You Make Friends

A photo of Jerry Seinfeld

Hey, remember that time that Lady Gaga went to a baseball game, flipped off some people, then got sent to Jerry Seinfeld’s VIP box where she couldn’t bother anyone?  Yeah, Jerry was not to pleased about the situation, and he was not afraid to let people know his thoughts on Lady Gaga during a recent interview:

“You know, you take one ‘a’ off of that, you’ve got gag.”

Zing!  You gotta love Jerry Seinfeld!  Ok, you really, really don’t, but he was all revved up, so he decided to go on about Gaga’s actions.

“I don’t know what these people think or how they promote their careers. I’m older, I’m 56…I’m not one of these ‘all publicity is good’ people. People talk about you need exposure—you could die of exposure. I don’t understand how this is good for her.”

Ok, that’s fair, but then he got a little catty:

“You know I changed my mind, you’re right, this woman’s a jerk. I hate her. I can’t believe they put her in my box that I paid for. You give people the finger and you get upgraded? Is that the world we’re living in now? It’s pathetic.”

And to finish, Jerry gave Lady Gaga the classic reverse compliment sandwich:

“Get an act—rhinestone bikinis and giving people the finger? She is talented, I don’t know why she’s doing this stuff.”

Excellent form, Jerry Seinfeld.  It almost makes me wonder how you’ve lost nearly all relevancy.

  • did you ever think that at 56, hollywood “relevancy” isn't a priority in his life emily? get a clue.

  • “Get an act—rhinestone bikinis and giving people the finger? She is talented, I don’t know why she’s doing this stuff.”

i hate to say it but i agree with him. she's way better than that and to be honest her outfits have been exceptionally boring as of late. i'm more disappointed in the rest of her ensemble @ heathrow than the fact that she ate dirt from those ridiculous heels.

  • i totally agree with him; i can't stand lady gaga. like ya, she's talented but she's such a fucking weirdo. like her weirdness has crossed the line in being “different” to being a complete freak show.

  • He's lost nearly all relevancy…to gossip blog sites. He's actually still been very successfully touring and about that little tv show he made in the 90s? Still syndicated on at least 2 stations. So yeah, I'd say he's still pretty relevant.

  • to back your point up a little more.. the reruns of his show have made 2.7 BILLION dollars since it went off the air. ya.. not relevant at all right emily?

  • Oh bloody hell, Emily, did you crawl out of your crib to start writing this blog? Jerry Seinfeld can buy and sell anybody anywhere anytime. He is simply living his family life doing his thing being the scenes. And he is doing it RICH AS F*CK. If relevant is showing your crotch or being caught with your finger up some starlet's arse, then – no – he is not relevant and never has been. I like Gaga's music but her schtick is getting old. Plus if I paid the kind of money Jerry paid for that luxury box, I'd be pissed as sh*t if somebody was put in it only to act a fool. The fact that Jerry Seinfeld speaks from a place of maturity doesn't make him irrelevant.

  • I don't think that third comment was meant entirely seriously. Partially, yeah, but not completely.

And yes, Emily's last comment was catty too and bugged me a bit because I like Jerry Seinfeld a lot (and agree with almost all of what the people before me have said about him), but come on – are we really gonna slam her for that when we've all chosen to come here to read it? Sometimes this site says things that I really believe cross the line, but this isn't one of them. It's Emily's JOB, and she's at least partly kidding. And besides, people say way meaner things than that to her all the time. I definitely don't think celebrities ask for abuse when they become famous – that argument is truly crap. I'm not normally an “if you don't like it, go away” kind of person, but seriously – if you don't like it, go away. Just one click. You can do it. I believe in you.

  • Nail on the head, Helen. It's a clashing of style and egos. Jerry probably wouldn't have been inclined to make a comment as a fellow member of the crowd had she not been seated in his area.

  • LOL….. Jerry is so right! This gaga whore is nothing but an attention grabin' slut who's 15 mins are about up. LOL…. anyone who admires this slut is nothing more then an uneducated redneck. Rock on Jerry

  • You know, I changed my mind, you're right, this woman is a jerk. I hate her. I can not believe they put it in my box that I paid for. To give people the finger and you get upgraded? Is this the world we live in today? How pathetic.
    m3 real carte

  • It's hilarious that show-folk are discussed as relevant, or not. World leaders, corrupt politicians and financiers, industry manipulators are relevant. Show-folk are clowns who fiddle while the Rome of this thing that we call human “civilization” burns.

So Jerry and Gaga – blather away. Make us laugh and forget wars and environmental disasters and greedy, corrupt manipulators for a few minutes a day.

And yes, drunken 24-year-old's do tend to be jerks, just like drunken 56 year-old's can be. Booze makes people stupid.

  • Emily until this one, I've loved every single post you wrote. But calling Seinfeld irrelevant was simply ridiculous. I hope you realize that.

Seinfeld rules and always did. And yeah, Gaga is turning into a whore.

  • Did you seriously just say Jerry Seinfeld had nearly lost his relevancy? Get a clue.
    Gaga is disgusting.

  • Before Seinfeld stole a married woman who just returned from her honeymoon, he was dating an underage girl in NY. His opinions are absolutely useless. He needs to look in the mirror before judging others.
