The One in Which I Actually Sort of Feel Bad For Snooki

Evidently, she was kinda responsible for the drunk-driving death of a friend way back in 2004 when she, herself, was a minor.  Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi had a basement party, which during said party, a friend by the name of MichaelTruncali, drank himself into oblivion and decided to take the old road home.

Unfortunately for Michael and his family, he didn’t make it home.  The Marlboro High School senior’s blood alcohol level was .18 — more than twice the legal limit in New York — and had rolled his car in the early hours of Thanksgiving morning after “drinking heavily” at Snooki’s house party.

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi was charged with Prohibited Sale of Alcoholic Beverages — Snooki had evidently been charging per cup — and she reportedly did her community service, paid her fine and ate the charges. Polizzi’s mother, who was apparently at home during the party, was questioned regarding the incident and although she was the adult in attendance, she received no warnings and no lawful repercussions.

I do kind of feel bad for Snooki.  Naturally, I feel worse for the crash victim’s family, but he obviously did that himself.  On one side, Snooki’s got to live with this knowledge for the rest of her life and that can’t be easy, but yet she continuously glorifies binge drinking on the set of the Jersey Shore … Her actions are kind of speaking a little bit louder than her words; it’s awfully hard to hear the scream of the trees in the forest while you’re cutting them down, am I right?

  • There is a huge difference between binge drinking and drink driving. The former is dangerous to yourself and the latter is irresponsible and dangerous to yourself and anyone else you come across. The reasons not to drink are your health, to save you from making bad decisions regarding sex and general bad behaviour and things like that. Rarely is drunkenness alone a cause for someone’s death (apart from things like liver disease which don’t just happen at a party) The reasons for not drink driving are to protect your life and the life of other drivers and pedestrians. It’s a much more serious risk to take and much more dangerous. Don’t compare the two.

    • Yeah, that’s a piss poor argument Claire, sorry. Both binge drinking and drunk driving are both considered reckless behaviors. The more apt you are to engage in one, the other will surely follow — at some point or another. I’m glad you spouted the sixth grade health textbook back to us, but out here in the real world, things are a little bit different.

And as far as drunkenness and a mass consumption of alcohol not being a cause alone for someone’s death? You really are deluded. It’s called HEART FAILURE. It HAPPENS during binge drinking.

      ClaireFAIL.

      • Heart failure is one of many, many things that can be attributed to too much boozing. Liver failure (quickly, or over long periods of time), brain damage, some cancers, not to mention the absolutely retarded things drunk people will sometimes do – like driving.

There is a very clear connection between the binge drinking culture, as promoted by the oompa-loompah set on the Jersey Shore, and drunk driving. People irresponsible enough to act like toolbags and get wasted all the time are likely not going to make intelligent choices when it comes to operating a motor vehicle while impaired. Or who they swap bodily fluids with.

What ever happened to real culture? You know, with books and stuff?

      • The whole situation is really sad for everyone involved. It’s such a waste when a young person loses their life to an easily preventable death.

That being said, all this arguing back and forth is talking about what drinking can do in theory is a bit ridiculous. This article is about drunk driving- not every single danger that alcohol can do to you. Besides, I don’t think any of the writers or commenters on this site think that any of the cast of Jersey Shore makes responsible choices- while binge drinking or otherwise. Furthermore, none of the cast has ever gotten behind the wheel while drinking & filming. I don’t think Snooki is evil because she still parties. I think she would be if she turns up with a DUI.

Recap- drinking and driving is bad. We’ll debate overall binge drinking another time…

      • It’s not a piss poor argument. Both are reckless behaviour, but one is a bad lifestyle choice if you do it too often and over a period of years, and the other just takes one instance to kill you and a car full of innocent people. There is a massive difference. Drinking too much does not lead to drunk driving, although obviously if you never drink you can never drink drive, but the decision to drink does not open the door to drunk driving. The more apt you are to engage in one the other will not surely follow. So your sixth grade health textbook tells you drink driving is different to binge drinking? Really? Wow I’m glad I wasn’t educated in your country. Out here in the real world, a huge amount of people drink and binge drink and only ever put themselves in danger. Although yes there are dangers to drinking, I find it a whole lot more responsible to put your own liver on the line as opposed to driving a vehicle in a condition where you could smash into another car and kill everyone in it. Drink driving is one of the most despicable things you can do, it’s selfish, stupid and reckless. Drinking on the other hand is a personal decision that only affects you in the majority of cases. Any time a person drink drives they are risking lives. Any time anyone drinks they are not. You can have three glasses of wine with a meal and you haven’t done any harm to anyone but if you get into a car, you are risking a hell of a lot. I am not deluded, heart failure doesn’t just hit you because you were binge drinking. Binge drinking is considered having about three drinks or more. Heart failure happens when you seriously overdose on drink. It’s not the mass consumption of drink that causes it, it’s rare and it’s because of seriously stupid amounts of drinking. It’s not the rule, it’s the exception.

  • “I do kind of feel bad for Snooki.”

    JESUS FUCKING CHRIST SARAH!!!!!!
Are you really that mother fucking stupid????

Snooki is an ass, her fucking mother is an ass, and anyone who can feel sorry for two asses who knowingly, wrongfully, and illegally give booze to a minor and then act like it was his fault after wards is just as big of a FUCKING ASS.

GOOD FUCKING LORD, YOU ARE ONE STUPID ASS CUNT!!!!

If some drunk killed someone you love, lets see how loving, accepting, and forgiving you would be.

    You’re a fucking idiot!

    • She probably feels bad because it’s something that Snooki has to live with for the rest of her life, you fucking bipolar schizo. Seriously. Go take some meds. You’re pretty fucking nuts yourself.

    • I agree with Good Lord! Snookie’s mother should be held accountable, she is the adult.

Lame to anonymously tell some one to “go on meds”.

  • i am a bartender. i cut people off all the time, but you never know. i would be devastated if someone i served hurt themselves and/or someone else after being at my bar. still don’t think i should be held at fault. i’d really hope people wouldn’t blame me unless of course it was a minor i was serving (which i would never knowingly do). snooki however was also a minor, so i’m gonna have to agree with sarah. the only sad part is snooki hasn’t learned from this incident by glorifying drinking on national television. she should be setting a better example so this doesn’t happen to more people.
