Update on the Kerrigan Family Drama

Although Dan Kerrigan’s autopsy results are still pending, Nancy Kerrigan and the rest of her family wont be seeing brother Mark Kerrigan, at their father’s funeral. Currently, it’s suspected that Mark’s physical fighting with his 70-year old father over the use of the home telephone was the cause of Dan’s death. He’s been arrested and charged with elderly abuse (not murder) and is currently undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.

From People:

Mark Kerrigan, 45, who has a long history of violence and run-ins with the law, was sent to Massachusetts’s Bridgewater State Hospital for an evaluation on his mental competency. The state Department of Correction guidelines prohibit prisoners from attending funeral services.

Mark is pleading not guilty and there hasn’t been a comment from the family, but this has to be an incredibly sad time for them. Not only have they recently lost someone, but they will likely lose another in a way, as well. Also, Mark’s “long history” of violence has been clear for some time and nothing was ever done about it. Often times mental illness is brushed under the carpet in favor of believing that everyone’s OK deep down, they’re just acting crazy. It’s a shame when a situation gets ignored and blows up like this.

  • or.. maybe they just hate him generally because he is a bully and thug, not mentally handicapped. You know it’s not unrealistic you simply don’t like, trust or want to be around an unlikeable family member.

      • Trust me, sometimes you just can’t get rid of a piece of shit family member. Case in point: my stepsister. She’s a fucking thieving, stupid bitch, but she “has nowhere else to go,” so she just leeches and mooches off of her grandparents and mother.

But I’m not bitter. Nope, not me! :)

  • Molls, are you going soft on us? Just the other day you posted the ‘whyyyyyyy’ story and you didn’t mention mental illness at all. You stated your personal feelings about how you felt about that family.
You posted “It’s a shame when a situation gets ignored and blows up like this.” How do you know if the Kerrigan family ignored this? Is this just your personal opinion?

This web page says “The Evil Beet, it’s not personal, it’s gossip”. Can you guys make up your mind?

  • Wow, why bother reading this blog if all you do is hate the writing? Lame. The whole Kerrigan situation is just really sad. All I can think of is how horrible it must be to lose such a close family member while your sibling is involved with his death and in prison.

  • Um, Molls? Dan died, not Mark.

“Currently, it’s suspected that Mark’s physical fighting with his 70-year old father over the use of the home telephone was the cause of Mark’s death.”

    Yeah, I know. I’m a bitch.

  • Why is it assumed that he’s mentally ill? I read a long history of “violence” not a long history of mental illness. Mentally ill people aren’t violent. How do we know it isn’t drugs? Or he’s just a sociopath?

Judging by this article I should be terrified of Sasha Pasulka. She might go violent on me.

  • It’s a sad thing. I read that the parents were suing the brother too- for morgage payments they made for him ( and cat food they bought??) Screwy huh?

  • I can almost guarantee you that this situation was not “ignored” by his family. However, many times their hands can be tied in trying to get anything done for someone who is suffering from mental illness. Due to the bureaucracy of most governmental services, proving to them that such a person needs to be committed can turn out to be quite the challenge. What a pity that it took something like this happen in order to get anything done — my best goes out to the survivors.

  • “Never go full retard.”

Look it’s a full-blown (proper use of hyphen, cara) meme. Don’t blame me, blame Hollywood.

  • Wasn’t there some report of alcohol use with this incident? Don’t any of you out there know ABOUT THE HUGE PERCENTAGE OF ALCOHOL ABUSE AS PART OF VIOLENCE NEEDING ARRESTS? HOW MANY UNTREATED ALCOHOLICS ARE FLOATING AROUND not willing to face their problems, and when are we going to get more laws allowing action against those who need it? Beyond that as a likely issue with young Kerrigan, can we say that “all that glitters is not Gold (or Silver). No matter how much family attention is given to the siblings of a “star” in what ever field the limelight shines, you are running a huge risk for an imbalance in their identity and well being and it’s happened many, many times. It’s all but unavoidable.

  • Whoever says mentally ill people can not be violent doesn’t know what they are talking about. I really feel for this family having been through an almost identical situation myself a few years ago. Yes, mentally ill people can turn violent! It happens every day. Unfortunately, a blind eye is turned to most people suffering with a mental illness. I know personally an entire family can be involved with getting help for a mentally ill family member and unless the mentally ill person has threatened themselves or others, it is darn near impossible to get them into a facility. We involved the state police many times and the local hospital would only do 72 hour holds. Heck, the police had picked them up the night before my father was killed. They were wondering around in someone’s home and we were told they were talking about being Jesus reincarnated and the police let them go on their own recognize. If only they would have sent them for a psych eval (which the police in my state can do), maybe my father would not have been killed the next evening. It is a shame that so many lives have to be devastated due to this disease. I wish people could start viewing mental illness as a serious disease and not something to be ignored or hidden in secrecy.

  • Somebody really needs to do a back ground on marks ex How does she keep getting involve in abusive relationships and ending up with great pay offs.
Could it be all the differant names she uses Hmmm.
Kind of a lot of drama for a 4 mth marriage.
    Just saying.
