Today's Evil Beet Gossip

You Guys, We Need to Talk About the Biggest Loser

Okay, so, if you’ve read this blog for any length of time, you know that I have a tendency to obsess on things. One of the things I tend to obsess on is television shows. I just get really into a show and think about it constantly, and the advent of iTunes means I can download every past episode instantly, right from my living room couch, and this is a very bad thing for my productivity. This summer I was obsessed with West Wing, and I watched all seven seasons straight through in the space of like two months. Do you know how many hours that is? (If you do, please don’t tell me.)

Right now, I’m obsessed with The Biggest Loser. My amazing trainer Kristen (quick shout-out — check out her website if you live in the Seattle area — I’ve been training with her since the week I moved here and she’s become both my fitness guru and my surrogate big sister) told me I had to start watching because I’d love it, and this season I started watching. And OMG do I love it. I just sit on my couch and watch it and sob with happiness and feel inspired and occasionally even get off the couch long enough to do 20 crunches before returning to the couch and sobbing some more. (This is why I need Kristen. All the televised inspiration in the world can’t actually get me to the gym.)

Anyway. Some friends hosted an early Thanksgiving/gratitude dinner tonight, and while I was shoveling delicious buttery calories into my mouth, the topic of The Biggest Loser came up. And then Bob and Jillian came up. And the table I was eating at was mostly filled with friends of mine who are lesbians, and they started arguing over whether Bob and Jillian were gay. Some of them swore they were both gay, some swore that neither was gay, and some thought that Bob was gay and Jillian wasn’t. I was leaning toward Bob might be gay and Jillian definitely wasn’t, but if the lesbians can’t decide, who am I to weigh in? So I asked on my Twitter.

The consensus? There was none. The opinions were completely varied. Wendie says she’s read Jillian’s book and she’s straight. But then an old friend of mine said that she knows for a fact — and this is possibly the very best gossip I’ve heard all year — that Jillian used to date Jackie Warner from Work Out a long time ago. If that is true I will just explode with reality TV happiness and insist that they get their own show together. I will fucking produce it myself.

The topic sparked such animated discussion, and I like to hear all the possible opinions I can about these things, so I thought I’d pose the question on here. What do you guys think? Anyone else have any fun inside dirt? Can anyone corroborate the story about Jillian and Jackie? (I would die of happiness.) And while we’re at it — who do you think is going to win this season? (My friends thought Rudy.)

Oh, and then a reader sent me this amazing video of Jillian training her BFF Vanessa Marcil, where she actually seems really nice and fun to be around and someone I’d want as a friend. It’s nice to see a new side of Jillian! Now I have to go out and get her book. OBSESSED, I tell you!

  • I LOVE Biggest Loser and I always tear up too. Of course instead of doing a few crunches I am usually drinking tea and eating a cookie :( Oh well…

I am with Wendie that Bob is gay (obviously and sadly) and Jill is straight. Jillian does let out her nice side now and then and knows when to push people and how far. I’ll see if I can dig up any dirt though.

    • I’m female and I love gay Bob just like I love gay Adam Lambert. Sigh… they would make the best boyfriends ever, and they’re SO hot.

  • i don’t watch the biggest loser but just from watching that video for approximately 45 seconds I am 99% positive that Jillian is gay…and i think my gaydar is really good, being gay myself

  • Here’s a link to a myspace of one of the past contestants.

The comment/description of the photo is a little revealing ;)

Also according to other rumors Jackie and Jill did date, she was co-owner and a trainer at Sky Sport then when Work Out came a long I think they had broken up and Jackie bought Jill out to be sole owner of Sky Sport.

Jillian does talk about boyfriends now and then though, so she may be bi but it seems like she is now and has dated women.

  • I live in LA and saw Jillian at The Abbey (the biggest gay bar in LA) one night about a year and a half ago. Her being there doesn’t make her gay, a lot of straight women go there with their gay BFFs; but her kissing a very tall blonde woman does! I don’t think it was Jackie Warner; I remember her being more feminine than Jackie. Anyway, thought I’d weigh in with some first hand info.

And gay or not, I love Bob and would totally make out with him. Just sayin’

  • ahhhh so amazing. experienced a similar obsession with west wing… did exactly the same thing getting it on netflix and went through the entire 2 seasons in 2 months. totally obsessed with Biggest Loser. LOVE IT.

i think bob is gay but i can’t make up my mind about Jillian. ps totally loved vanessa marcil in that video.

  • Hi. I am also obsessed with BL. Its amazing what the contestants can do with the right training and guidance. Bob and Jillian- both gay. I too heard about Jillian and Jackie and all that, and lets face it, no man is going to put up with Jillians aggressiveness. I love bob and wish he could train me 24-7, gay or not. He has the passion for the job as well as the empathy for people that Jillian simply does not have. Id never pay to be abused by her like those contestants are. Completely OT, I d love to be trained by Jackie as well. I LOVE work out, and she seems tough but still human. Love reality Tv…

  • Normally I’d be all over the gay discussion but my gaydar seems to be broken lately. I used to be a wizard at it because of all my gay friends but not so much anymore. I like to think it’s because I’ve evolved SO MUCH as a person that it simply doesn’t come into my thinking (hahaha).

Anyhoo, just have to say that was an excellent video! She DOES seem so much more approachable (even tho I’ve never had a problem with her). Gay or straight I now want her as my trainer AND shopping partner.

  • Bob is yes, watch him and my gaydar is on…

Jillian…I’d LOVE to say yes, but if so, more a-or Bi, but not totally on the same team.

  • Jill is gay. If you follow her facebook or Twitter (and yes, that means I do). You’ll see she talks about “being away from my baby” and how she’s “going to be single if I’m not home soon”, etc.

And she posts pics of her and her “baby”, a girl with the nickname “Mouse”. Anywho, further internet stalking by her “followers” discovered Mouse’s actual name and turns out her and Jill are indeed together.

She’s actually very open about it on Facebook I think. I don’t think it’s much of a secret anymore.

  • I *know* this will sound stupid, but my gaydar always went off with Jillian b/c of what she *didn’t* say. For example, on her radio show, she kept talking about “men’s swimsuits” – she didn’t know “trunks” or “board shorts” until her producer piped in and told her. It just seems if you date guys and live on the beach in Cali, you will know “trunks” or “board shorts”.

Also, in the past she did mention a boyfriend, but in the recent couple of years, it’s all gender neutral pronouns, or “significant other” and so on. I haven’t read her books, but on her radio show, she often to referred to an “ex” in the entertainment biz and that they played on a softball team together. Mmmm hmmmm.

Bob is gay to the third power. I mean, please! I don’t know how there can be a moment’s debate. But then again, this is the vegan with a leather man-purse who does Prius commercials whilst personally driving a gas guzzling Porsche, so he is a bit of a paradox (I am too kind to say hypocrite…)

  • If I remember correctly a few seasons back one of the contestants “outed” Bob on a radio show. Sometimes he wears a ring on his married hand, others not. I say gay.

Jillian on the other hand….either way.

  • Wow. I never thought either one of them was gay. All the crying is getting kind of old for me. I would like to see Rudy win.

    • I KNOW! I’m getting so tired of all the drama and all the crying. Abby had a legit story and reason to cry, but to keep bringing it up even made me feel awkward. And don’t even get me started on SHAY. If I have to hear one more effing story about how she’s fought all her life for people to love her and how her life was so hard, her mother was a drug addict…blah blah blah wah wah wah, I’m going to shoot myself in the face. I understand that what he went through was rough, but using it as a crutch and as a way to keep her on the ranch is, quite frankly, pathetic.

  • I saw Jillian at a Knick game last Spring and I actually sat right near her and introduced myself. She was with a group of ladies…one inparticular seemed like a girlfriend – she seemed like she was on a date.

I could be wrong. But I dont think I am.

  • Bob is gay and doesn’t hide it. Last Thanksgiving I was at the Ritz Carlton in LA and we sat next to him and his hunky (and MUCH younger!) partner. Actually we were all more interested in what he was eating than who he was with! I’ve also attended his spin class several times and he’s open about it.
