Russell Simmons Wants Bill Cosby to Shut Up

Russell Simmons has finally had it with Bill Cosby and I’m just so happy that someone finally has the nerve to publicly speak out about one of American’s favorite comedians. I have never thought that Bill Cosby is funny and he bought the “Little Rascals” series so that no one could ever view it.  Snopes says that is just urban legend, but I secretly feel that he’s somehow involved.  I could cut him.

Simmons wrote an open letter to Cosby in response to Bill’s new comedy CD — do people still buy those? — “Bill Cosby Presents the Cosnarati: State of Emergency.”  Russell feels that the Cos’ is too quick to blame today’s youth for so many of society’s ills.  Here’s the letter, though I wish he would’ve thrown in something about Cosby’s love of drugging and molesting women and how that should stop too.  Heh.

There are a lot of great entertainers

who do great things. Bill Cosby is one of them. He has always used his voice to right what he thought was wrong. However, I believe that too often Mr. Cosby has wrongly placed the blame.

Bill Cosby is an example of someone from the older generation who has consistently blamed the poets and asked suffering community members to bear the full burden of guilt for the struggles that they endure. It is certainly not that he and the rest of the elders don’t care, because they do. In fact, their intentions are pure and good. All the things they say are actually true. What they don’t understand is that the young people who they criticize did not create their own realities. They did not create the crumbling education system that we school them in. They did not create the drug epidemic and drug wars that have resulted in a dysfunctional family structure. They did not create the health care crisis that does not treat them. They did not create the culture of violence that they fall victim to.

While it is true that each one of us can make a change at any moment, it is equally true that at every minute we are all doing the best we can. If you knew better, you would do better. Therefore, those who care and have resources could/should work to create the kind of support systems that could inspire change.

  • Oh – I LOVE this letter! Russell Simmons has his pulse on Gen X, Gen Y…whatever….he is a man for all generations. Bill Cosby fell off of any pedestal he was on for me way back in the ’70’s, when I found out from another student at a NYC acting school that ‘someone’ had paid her tuition (she was a beautiful african american girl…named Vanessa). Saw her the next year, and she confirmed not only that it was Mr. Cosby, – but that she had slept with him after being invited to one of his concerts. And then when he began his TV show – one of the characters was named Vanessa…a sly reference perhaps? He seems to hold everyone else to a higher moral ground than himself.

    Russell Simmons – rocks.

    • YEAHHH momster! I know you are so excited to get to share that story with everyone on this site, a moment you were born for and now your life has been fulfilled. Time to step in front of a train and find out what higher destiny is awaiting you?

    • About 10-12 women came forward with the claim that he drugged and molested them in 2005. See http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0420051_bill_cosby_1.html

He seems to have a schizophrenic approach to his life. He wants to be a superior role model while apparently having another life not just as an adulterer, but as a sexual predator and criminal.

It’s amazing that he is still being lauded and treated so respectfully despite his crimes.
His wealth and fame don’t give him the right to hold himself up as superior to people whose struggles are greater than his, especially when his behavior is worse than unethical.

      • He didn’t actually molest them. I heard from a chick named Vanessa that he just smeared jello pudding all over them.

  • Just what the youth of today needed…. another excuse to be fuck ups….. I’m sorry, but what Russell Simmons is saying is exactly what’s wrong with the impoverished minds of the less fortunate youth. They don’t need another reason to look around and accept the hand that they were dealt. I don’t think Bill Cosby is trying to get the youth of today to accept blame for the problems of society. I think he’s trying to get them to realize the problems in society that do exist are only being exacerbated by their behavior and conduct. I think Bill wants them to see that their standard of life will only improve when they quit focusing on who’s to blame for “the way things are”, and focus on bettering themselves and their situations. I mean, for God’s sake stand up and earn your demographic some respect instead of waiting around for some celebrity to tell people “it’s not their fault.” They don’t need another cosigner. They need pride in their accomplishments.

P.S. – the Bill Cosby “womanizing angle” is irrelavent. Like Russell Simmons never got his dick sucked in the studio. I don’t care if my Math Teacher was banging little boys….. 2 + 2 still equals 4.

  • Russell Simmons is full of shit and should keep his mouth shut. Russell has profited plenty by promoting music writers, singers, performers who have done plenty to bring the Black Community down to the lowest common denominator. If he had wanted to do anything at all to bring the Community up, he would not have made his fortune the way he did. It’s like listening to Tony Montana lecturing to drug addicts.

Oh, yeah, and Russell, you are a good example of womanizing jerk off too. Let’s get serious and ask your Baby Phat wife how many woman you paraded through your homes, behind her back, around your daughters, etc.

What duplicitious self righteous shit. Cosby makes sense—people need to start taking responsibility for themselves—no matter what their circumstance. Decency and civility have nothing to do with poverty, circumstance, and color End of argument.

  • wendie wrote “I could cut him.”
    WHAT?!
    get a grip.
i’m not even taking sides with Cosby or Simmons.
threat-making and violent reactions to people to you don’t agree with is weak. Craptalk like “I could cut him” is not only unprofessional, it is inexcusable.

  • Simmons needs to listen closer to what Cosby says, or at least the message I’ve heard from him. 1) Take responsibility for your life instead of blaming everyone else for you being a loser, 2) pick positive role models, 3) get an education. Simmons ignores that many of the “struggles” the community endures is of their own making–that is precisely Cosby’s point.

    • Are you an idiot? Do you NOT know how to navigate away from a blog you don’t like or don’t agree with? YOU need to get. off. this. blog. NOW.

      • No, people that do not agree do not need to leave. They are speaking up. They have a right to do that. That’s how America works.

      • I’m new to this whole posting a reply thing, and maybe I just need to let things go, but does everyone take everything so literal all the time? If he doesn’t like Wendie, why does he visit her blog and make stupid comments like that? It’s a waste of time to read them… as is the time anyone is taking to read this one. If people could take jokes, maybe we wouldn’t have so many angry people out there. Yes, we have many rights. I have the right to bear arms. Point?

      • OH Holly, you’re such a Evilbeet virgin. Please continue posting so we can start attacking you, regardless of what you say. We eat our own here!

      • We are not the idiots, Wendie is the idiot. This site was once fantastic then Beet got lazy and hired a bunch of fucks that unfortunately included Wendie. She is the only person I know of who ever chose to pursue the “Tard” literary style in her work.

    • get.wendie.off.this blog.

i second this! because i cant be bothered to change the online gossip site ive always read. and cause she is sooo obnoxious, how she writes, her opinions. i dislike her.

but yeah free country so i guess i’ll keep seeing u around wendie…

  • There’s no doubt that Cosby can be a bit of blowhard and windbag regarding the issue of wayward youth and all, but Simmons is worse…much worse. He is re-enforcing the “oh, poor me” victim philosophy, most of which is myth. What the urban black community is really a victim of is the likes of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Charles Rangle, Maxine Waters, and other so-called black leaders who do nothing to emphasize the benefits of personal responsibility and instead prey upon the ignorant and uneducated and do everything they can to keep them that way. That is how they stay in power and continue to keep getting re-elected. Meanwhile, their constituents have to keep bars on their windows and are too terrified to go out of their homes after dark. “Whitey” and the establishment can only be blamed for so much, then you have to clean up your own backyard. When Simmons states, “They did not create the crumbling education system that we school them in. They did not create the drug epidemic and drug wars that have resulted in a dysfunctional family structure,” I have to ask “Then who did?” Perhaps the education system sucks in these neighborhoods because of the overwhelming apathy of both parents and students, emphasized by poor attendance and bad attitudes. Maybe the health care system sucks because urgent care units are going bankrupt and having to close due to non-payment of services, the excessive cost of treating bullet wounds, and people doing too little to maintain their personal well being (e.g. bad diet, smoking, etc.). When Cosby goes ranting about the seemingly trivial stuff like wearing baggy pants down around your knees and bastardizing the English language (Ebonics), it’s all part of the big picture. If things are to ever get any better, eliminating this kind of urban bullshit culture crap is the core to gaining respect from those outside of it.

    • That’s pretty much it in a nutshell Senor Loco, Jesse Jackson’s got a job for life.
I’d also like to add babies having babies. They have a baby, drop out of school, thus limiting employment opportunities to a minimum wage job. I realize that there are single mothers who go on to further their education, but for every one who earns a college degree, there are many, many more that end up on welfare.

  • Russell Simmons rocks? He’s wearing a fucking bowtie, for christs sake. If this peabrain rocks, my grandpa is gonna blow your fuckin’ minds!!!!!

  • blaaaaaah blaah blaaaaaaah. people have to take responsability for their actions AND poverty does make a difference when yu are trying to achieve your goals, its an obstacle. doesnt mean you’re doomed to roam the streets as a drug addict or a prostitue, it just means you have to work harder than others. so both cosby and russel are right, how can u people not see this???????????

      • hahaha why??? cause i have a life and cant be bothered to proof read. do u even have an ipinion about what i wrote, u pathetic idiot? guess NOT.

and to all my fans out there… people have to realize that no one chooses the life theyre born into. doesnt mean they get a free card to behave however the fuck they want. but it does mean that we cannot jump on our high horse and judge others, we have no idea what they are going through; i have no idea, thats why i dont assume.

      • You assume a great deal when you say “to all my fans out there… ”
Are you fucking kidding me? You sound like some demented silent film actress from the 20’s standing in front of a mirror when she’s 102, reliving her acceptance speech.
        Man that comment was creepy.

      • hahaha grow a sense of humor u dick. plus, cant u tell im a hot chick, i thought it was very obvious…

    • With a name like Billy Bob you are probably used to having your fingers around your cousins worm quite often.

  • well yeah… didnt u realize that worm tip came from experience? youre dumber than i thought… and oh yeah i also like corn, any more redundances you’d like to point out?

  • Bill Cosby is right.. look at that young 15 year old girl who was raped over and over for two hours while others watched and did nothing. When those young punk rapists go to court their lawyers will jump on the “society made them do it” boo hoo band wagon, that Simmons whines about, as defense for the hell they put her through. I am sick of people blaming everything wrong they do on everyone else. My Father was a drunk who beat my Mother weekly, sometimes daily and I watched and heard every bit of it.. but I NEVER used it as an excuse to wrong someone else. Simmons can STFU and take his “society” crap and shove it. And my answer to all those people who believe Cosby abused any woman, all of their credibility went out the window when they waited to report it, and all evidence was lost, if any ever really did exist that is $$$.

  • The widely-circulated rumor that entertainer Bill Cosby bought up the rights to Our Gang to keep the racial stereotypes off of television is false. Cosby has never owned any rights to the series at any time. [33]
