Does Anyone Watch SNL Anymore?

Two SNL cast members that I’ve never even heard of– Michaela Watkins and Casey Wilson– were let go this weekend when the show hired two new cast members– Jenny Slate and Nasim Pedrad– who I’ve also never heard of.

You might know Watkins for the above character, bitchpleeze.com blogger Angie Tempura, who I’ve seen in a few Youtube clips, and even posted here once for a little self-depricating goodness. I don’t know what Wilson is responsible for, since I haven’t watched SNL in years and only know of any of anything that comes out of it from videos that go viral.

The decision to let the two go came “suddenly,” and left Watkins a little taken aback, but not exactly angry:

I don’t think anyone knows what Lorne Michaels was thinking. That’s one of the exciting things about him. If he were to vanish the show would just freeze. Not a single thing would be shot because so much hinges on him.

The only explanation I got from him — and he’s not known to say things just to make people feel better — was that he felt deep down that I should have my own show. And I agreed. SNL was a dream come true for me. It was a fantastic year. I don’t have any regrets.

  • I know grammar isn’t necessarily easy, so I won’t bust any proverbial balls about the myriad of errors in the above post, but it really isn’t all that difficult to conduct a cursory check of spelling prior to putting something out there on the internet for all to see–just hit F7!

    You’re welcome.

    • Really?

This is all you do all day isn’t it… spell checking random post on a Gossip blog. You have so little going on in your life that you need to make a nasty post about her spelling?

It looks as if you may want to try to find a new hobby… being the spell check police, just makes you look petty.

  • I still watched and I didn’t like either of them. I wanted to because I tend to want to support the women but they just weren’t that funny.

  • SNL has been pretty much unwatchable for the past, uhm, 7 years or so. Nothing funny about it. AT ALL. Occasionally Will Ferrell will host and that will make it a decent episode but if you try tuning in the next week it’s back to being unwatchable again. I don’t really understand how the cast members on that show got hired. Nobody’s funny.

  • nope. i positively can’t take another game show or cheerleader segment…had to run away screaming from the show due to the aforementioned lame-o formulaic game show/cheerleader crap put forth continually. that, and boring musical guests, no cool or classic music anymore just trendy lame stuff. i agree the show hasn’t been fun or funny in a decade or so. i did enjoy Casey Wilson’s contributions though. wish they’d let Kristen Wiig go instead. Maya Rudolf is missed.

  • I watch occasionally, and I did like Casey Wilson. The other two chicks? I couldn’t tell them apart…which one did Angelina Jolie, because that was pretty funny. “Is she gonna bring her behbee?”

Lorne shoudl just hire JT and be done with it. Even for one year. Oh, and dollars to doughnuts, I’m the only goddamned biddy who remembers the SNL premiere. I was in 9th grade, bitches.

  • i watch snl…and i’m glad they let her go at least because i didn’t like her that much.

as long as andy is still there, i’m good

  • I think SNL got funny again this season. It hadn’t been good for a while, but Kristin Wiig, Andy Samberg, Bill Hader and a lot of the other cast members are pretty funny in my opinion. Granted, there are always gonna be sketches and segments that are pretty dumb, but I think it’s been great. And I didn’t really think much of Casey or Michaela this season anyway, so I don’t really care much about that.
