Jade Goody’s Husband Charged with Rape

Jade Goody's Widower, Jack Tweed, Backstage at the Reading Festival in August 2009

Jack Tweed, the widower of Big Brother reality TV star Jade Goody, has been charged with rape and remanded until  September 21st, when he will appear at Redbridge Magistrates’ Court.

Police arrested Tweed and another man in his twenties on Friday after a teenage girl reported that she had been assaulted at Tweed’s home in Woodford Green, east London. The other man arrested with Tweed has since been bailed out, but a third suspect was also arrested on Friday in connection with the case and is being held in a London jail.

Tweed has openly admitted that he’s had trouble coping with Goody’s death, drinking heavily and getting himself arrested for assaulting a taxi driver a few weeks after her passing. It’s regrettable that he is having such difficulty dealing with his wife’s death, but maybe he should shell out a couple pounds for a copy of The Grief Recovery Handbook or something. Rape is just not a good coping mechanism.

  • If he is on remand then he will be held in prison until the court appearance, that suggests that he is accused of far more than just allowing a crime to happen at his address.

The fact is that he was an utter scumbag when Jade was alive and has not changed one iota since her early demise.

  • Don’t know, I don’t really believe this stuff – probably the girl had sex with him and now calls rape and will sell the exclusive to the highest-bidding tabloid. I know I might get backlash from some people, but don’t know, not sure.

  • While I am making no excuses for the heinous crime of rape, I do find it a bit annoying to see “teenage” bolded like that as if it suddenly makes the whole thing unthinkable. I believe the girl is 19 to his 22, from stories I’ve read…so while yes that is technically teenaged, it isn’t the same as 15 or something as the importance of bolding might imply to a reader.

Hideous evil crime on its own, no need for implications of pedophilia to sensationalize it.

    • I was just gonna say that – the bolded ‘teenage’ thing is a bit misleading (and uneeded as you say). He was a stupid little boy when Jade was alive and he’s a stupid little boy now.

    • You’ll get a lot of that on this site. Like the use of the term ‘barely legal’ when talking about a 23 year old woman. When you point this out, the writer will say “barely legal to drink”, which we all know is not what is meant when using the term ‘barely legal’.

  • People have different ways of dealing with grief, some people honor the person who passed by doing good works in their name, others rape unwilling girls while drunk and excuse the horrific crime by saying they loved the departed so much that as a legacy they scarred another individual for the rest of their lives.

It doesn’t matter how old the rape victim(s) were they were raped. Bolding is a non issue in this case don’t you think. The fact he even said Jade’s name in association with this should be another charge, nice job of further traumatizing her kids too, since they are bound to find out.

I realize they don’t sentence as much time for rape in England but wouldn’t it be nice if he got 20 years and did half of it so we have a chance to forget all about the grieving widower. By his excuses it’s obvious he’s guilty as hell.

    • I agree the bolding isn’t relevant to the crime. I believe I stated clearly that I consider the rape to be a heinous crime. My comment was more directed at media sensationalism (in this case, the story here) and its tendency to imply things rather than just report the facts.

There’s no need for us to consider the girl a child in order to be disgusted by the crime in question.

  • I’m from Woodford Green and have seen him around a number of times.. he is always drunkenly hitting on some poor girl who is somehow starstruck by his pathetic claim to fame. He’s clearly the kind of guy who believes that he is above laws created to prevent crimes like rape and assault, and uses the memory of Jade Goody as a poor excuse for his actions. Lock him up.
