Today's Evil Beet Gossip

Jon & Kate Plus Child Labor Investigators

The State of Pennsylvania is investigating the Gosselins after receiving a complaint that the couple are violating the state’s child labor laws.

“I can confirm that our bureau of labor law compliance is conducting an investigation as they do whenever they receive a charge,” said Christopher Manlove, a spokesman for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.

Manlove would not say who filed the complaint, when it was filed or what the exact allegations are. “Because the case is ongoing I can’t discuss the content of the investigation,” he said.

In response to the investigation, TLC released a statement Friday saying, “TLC fully complies with all applicable laws and regulations.  Jon and Kate + 8 is no exception.  For an extended period of time, we have been engaged in cooperative discussions and supplied all requested information to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor.  We will continue to engage the appropriate officials and meet any standards or regulations that are applicable to TLC productions.”

The department is required to investigate every complaint that is filed, regardless of its apparent legitimacy.

I wonder who filed the complaint? Earlier in the week Aunti Jodi and Uncle Kevin told the Early Show that they thought the children were being “exploited” and “viewed as a commodity”.

Hmmm….

  • the department is required to investigate every complaint but that doesn’t mean they do so thoroughly or that they continue to follow up on them. try nixmary jones for one. we drop the ball on thousands of cases where kids end up killed or subject to prolonged abuse and don’t get help. but all these poor little rich kids who are sooooo high risk? give me a fucking break. let this family implode from its own over exploitation and focus on more pressing issues in this country.

Amen. I am so tired of everyone making money off these kids. (>I am looking at those wack-jobs aunt and uncle<) Plus I seriously doubt those kids are in harms way.

I am officially tired of hearing about it. It is time for a new scandal to start about someone else… so the media can dog-pile someone new for the next 30 days.

Geez’ hasn’t Octo-Crazy Mom not done anything lately to rile up Gloria Allred? It’s time for Glori to be the ultimate media ho and get back on her game tormenting Octo-Crazy.

  • Maybe Jon (or his lawyer) filed the complaint to get out of the contract with TLC.

I hope the investigators tell them the kids need a long break from being filmed..like years off (I know, I have no idea what child labor laws are like and no idea what investigators could decide). Jon and Kate have made enough money that they don’t have to work; I hope they spend some of it on therapy so they can figure out how to stay together, which the experts I’ve read say is almost always what’s best for children. Let the kids grow up as normally as possible for five years and then ask them if they want to do an hour special once a year or every couple of years. Have only the kids who want to do it participate.

  • Coral says: “n and Kate have made enough money that they don’t have to work; ”

No, they have not. They need a hole lot more of money to be well off. Schooling coasts a lot. they need college tution, College is expensive weather its for 1 kid, or 8 kids. Clothes is also expensive for 8 kids. New clothes every summer (think annual back to school clothes) plus some new outfits every weekend or two. They need to live. A house and food is $$

    • I agree they will need a lot of money to live comfortably, but who needs new outfits every weekend? That’s excessive to me, not comfortable.

    • You could send 8 kids through college with a million dollars. They’re worth 10. I think they could, you know, maybe do it. I know if I had 10 million bucks I’d be able to make it last until I could kick all those damn kids out at 18!

    • I typically wouldn’t bag on typos and such, but damn, this post is chock full of errors. Anyway, what about Tori and Dean and their two children? Kate should lodge a complaint to get the focus off of her for a bit.

  • is no one going to talk about how unfortunate mr. manlove’s name is? am i way too immature? i think i know…

    • THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY.
Let’s be honest, THAT is the most significant issue here. Manlove..? Really?!

    • Manlove…I bet he got the crap beat out of him in school. I couldn’t get past the guy’s name in to get the point of this post. Shallow me.

  • Viewed as a commodity? Does that mean I have to quit hoping for the day that I start selling crystal meth to the kid with the glasses?

  • They won’t have to worry about Maddy going to college. She is so screwed up by her scum mother that she’ll either be a hooker, on drugs or in jail by that age.
