Anne Hathaway Wants Barack Obama to Explain Rick Warren

What does Anne Hathaway expect from Barack Obama in 2009?

An explanation, dammit, of why he chose Rick Warren to do the invocation at his inauguration.

Anne, I’d like an explanation of how you spent four years of your life dating a man who falsely claimed to be the CFO of the Vatican without catching on.

We don’t always get what we want, my dear.

  • honestly, i’d like an explanation of why he chose warren, too. there are other pastors in this country he could have chosen, ones who preach love, acceptance and peace instead of intolerance. it is a slap in the face to the many gays & lesbians who campaigned & voted for him.

but i still cannot stand anne hathaway ;)

  • I recently went through Rick Warren’s Forty Days of Purpose. It was life-altering. There are millions of Americans that Barack Obama will now represent that also believe in many of the things that Rick Warren believes in.

I DON’T believe in restricting anyone’s civil rights and disagree with my whole religion and fellow Christians who believe it is their right to do so, but I still believe in and follow most of the same principles as them.

Barack Obama would be hard-pressed to find a mainstream religious leader who supports gay marriage. It’s sad, it’s disgusting…but I fully believe it to be true.

Just my attempt to understand and explain something that I don’t like either…for what it’s worth.

    • I couldn’t agree more as a christian!
I think it was for publicity. I mean, why is he using the Lincoln bible? For the shock value! Warren is an extremely popular man right now, and he fits the bill.

  • I think the bigger issue is why is anyone bothering to ask Anne Hathaway about anything that relates to politics or social issues? Why is her opinion or concerns anymore important than mine or anyone else’s? If it’s because she’s famous and acts in movies…well, that’s just sad.

  • I believe, no, I know that Obama has already explained his pick of Rick Warren, at least 2 times. I’m not a fan of Warren either. I think he’s rigid and boneheaded in his thinking, and not very Christ-like either. But I get it. I get what Obama’s trying to do. I guess either you get it or you don’t. Some people won’t budge.

  • Fish Face Hathaway talkin out her bootie right there.
I would like some one to expalin how she gets those giant features to stay on her tiny head like that with out the weight of her mouth causing her neck to buckel under the pressure.

I always feel like her face is melting. Shes like an M.C. escher drawing.
I could never take a halucenagen and hang out with ther…

But yeah Rick Waren was an odd choice and I agree you would be hard pressed to find a christian preacher/priest/whatever to agree with gay issues. Perhaps they should choose a rabbi?

I know some openly gay ones….

  • Anne is not our President, she owes us no explanation for who she dates. No one voted for her.
Obama owes us an explanation. Period.

  • Geez! I don’t know why you choose to ignore the fact that Obama simply does not support gay marriage. He flat out said it. It’s also no secret that he is a practicing Christian. This should not have been a surprise. Good God! You act like he chose Osama Bin Laden to make this address. Liberal folks chose to see in him things that were not there or thought that they could manipulate him because he is young and now they are pissed off because the man has a mind of his own.

    • That fact that Warren is, like Obama, against gay marriage is not why I and others are unhappy about the pick. Warren equated gays with pedophiles. The LGBT community is the only minority that public figures can trash with impunity, and Obama’s selection basically says that’s fine with him.

  • people in glass churches shouldnt throw heavy objects in said church made out of glass because throwing things is just rude.

  • I found the following quote and thought that this gal put things into prospective very well. (sorry it’s kinda long)

“It is sad that so many Christians are still in an “us against them” mentality. Yes, Jesus is my lord and savior, but because of that, I am required to share his love for humanity—even with those who do not recognize his lordship. The longer the religious right continues down this path of demonizing the left, they will continue to be less and less aligned with the gospel of Christ. You cannot study the life of Jesus and then deny the fact that he adored people who were not devout Jews (as he was) and the only times he ever showed frustration and even anger were for those who believed they were righteous members of Judaism. Rick Warren is a good man, who I believe is wrong in his discrimination of gay people and wrong about how we reduce the number of abortions in this country, but Obama’s pick of him for the invocation simply shows that Obama loves people that he doesn’t necessarily agree with. This is what a Christian is called to do. Good for Obama, good for Christians, good for America, good for the world.”

  • Obama is going to bring people together that would never otherwise be brought together. That’s part of change. It’s not going to be a group of like minded people sitting in a conference room stroking eachother’s egos and totally agreeing with every word his says. People of opposite beliefs will bring forth the change that this country needs. I don’t totally agree with this choice but I see what he’s doing. Also, he doesn’t agree with gay marriage, he’s never claimed to. Joe Biden made that VERY clear in the VP debate. They do believe in equal Civil Rights though.

  • Perhaps he wont be bringing as much change as we hoped for. Shit, I hope I am wrong. But seriously.. Warren’s a douche!!!

  • Now, you know I’m a fan of Obama. I’m also a fan of bringing more people together in this country. However, I do feel that Rick Warren was a mistake. It’s ok, because it’s not a huge mistake, he’s only doing the invocation. He’s not at all a part of Obama’s cabinet or anything.

It’s one thing to be a Christian and oppose same sex marriage and/or homosexuality. But Rick Warren has been very vocal and very offensive to gay people- like comparing homosexuality with pedophilia. I think Obama should make this up to folks by repealing DOMA. I think he owes the gays (and straights who see this as a civil rights issue) a favor, and that one is doable.

Obama cannot openly support gay marriage because no viable politician can these days. He supports everything but the word, though. Civil unions with exactly the same rights as straight couples. And he’s talked about repealing DADT. He also has an openly gay member of his cabinet.

  • Rick warren ws perfect! read the bible! it’s wrong to be gay! I don’t know a pastor that would support this!!!!!!!! Smhhh………. turning nothing into something!

  • To categorize and judge an individual solely based upon sexual orientation is wrong.

So is it not wrong to judge a man’s entire character based upon a single opinion on a controversial social issue?

Regardless of what Rick Warren has said or done in the past, his prayer for President Obama and the entire country was not only well stated but much needed.

To say that the world economy is in turmoil would be an understatement. America is openly engaged in 2 wars. Iran and North Korea are boldly escalating their threats with each passing day. There are millions of families and children dying of hunger and lack of basic necessities…

With that in mind, Rick Warren asked God to provide wisdom, the courage to act, and protection for the country and the new president.

As a patriotic citizen and a believer in Christ, I believe with conviction that the content of the prayer said that morning should be focused upon… not the past mistakes of a man or who Hathaway thinks would have been a better pick for the invocation.

    God loves you all!
