Is Everyone Super Excited for United States of Tara?

Here’s a first look at the new Showtime comedy, The United States of Tara, written by much-hyped Juno scribe Diablo Cody. It stars Toni Colette as a married mother with dissociative personality disorder.

From /Film:

I might have read the script. And if I did, I’d tell you how it’s peppered with Cody’s pop-culture obsessed snap-filled dialog, minus the intense slang of Juno. And it’s not light either. In the opening it is revealed that Tara has just found morning after pills in her 16-year-old daughter’s Kate’s bag. It’s later revealed that (potential spoiler warning) one of Tara’s alter egos, a burnout teenage stoner named T, was the one who supplied her with said pills. If Collette can actually pull off each of the personalities, and actually make it believable, this could be Showtime’s next Dexter.

Does it look good?

Will you guys be tuning in?

  • I *heart* Toni Colette. Ever since Muriel’s Wedding. Classic. or cult classic? Anyway, I don’t get Showtime. Does anyone?

  • I don’t get it either KB, mostly because I’m super poor.

I’d watch it and I love love love Toni Colette

  • That looks super good but this video service is really bad Beet. I could barely get through it because it started and stopped so much.

  • god, if john corbett’s in it, then hell yes!

it looks weird, but I think I’ll like it. I just hope they screen in in Australia, but I’m sure they will given our greatest export’s in it.

(yes Toni’s waaay better than Nicole and infinitely better than Cate, but I think I’m the only Aussie to think so.)

  • yes! it’s definitely an unconventional subject for a tv show…though that is some of its appeal. but…toni colette? john corbett? diablo cody? all high quality. i’m excited…although i don’t get showtime either i think…eh i’m sure i’ll be able to find it on the internet somewhere :) does itunes sell showtime tv shows?

  • rockcried:
you know, the problem with nicole is that she’s so…i dunno…pristine? perfect? trying so hard to be the perfect Hollywood Glamour Girl Skinny Ass Botoxed Trophy Wife?

but if you can see beyond that, she’s actually done some really good work, like in “To Die For.” or Chicago. She’s a great actor.

John Corbett? NO! He’s the same every time! Hiis little head-twitchy-skinny-lipped-innocent-looking boycandonowrong look just doesn’t work for me.

    Go Toni Colette!

  • Two things comes to mind when watching that.

    1) Showtime has been kicking HBO’s ass lately in terms of quality productions. NHBO should never have canceled Deadwood and Rome. Yes, I am still bitter.

    2) Diablo Cody, the stripper with a heart of gold, is writing fucking television shows after winning an Oscar? What a go girl living up to your potential.

  • Nah, me too rockcriedout. Nothing against Cate or Nicole but I LUV Toni Collette. No botox, no teeth fixing but she plays super sexy and she plays super weird and super frumpy.

    She’s just brilliant.

  • @ KB

yes I agree with you on the good work thing (aside from the fact that Nicole was in Moulin Rouge, not Chicago, unless she was in some stage version I’m not aware of). I’m sure she’s a lovely person. she just bugs me, that’s all.

I can’t help it, I love John Corbett. and I love Toni. I’ve loved her ever since Muriel’s trainwreck crying fits.

“you listen to seventies music. this is the nineties. we listen to the Baby Animals!”
    “and Nirvana!”
    “waaaaaah!”

  • oh god, i;’ve gone and mixed up the 2 screen musicals i;ve seen in this decade, where the hell is the apostophe on this keyboard> Yes, Moulin Rouge–great. Chicago–great too.
    Love Toni Colette.

What do you people love about
John Corbett? Have I missed some great acting? I just can’t get his little twitchy hairthing outta my mind.

  • I also love muriels wedding and toni collete for being in that movie, she’s amazing.

And this show looks amazing too, id watch it if I had showtime, maybe I can see it online.

  • Ah this looks AWESOME! I wish I has showtime, but alas, I am a poor, poor student. I suppose that’s what torrents are good for… mm hmm

  • i adore toni colette and if i had showtime i would watch it. you guys must let the rest of us know how it is!

  • I’m going to have to get Showtime. Toni Colette is an amazing actress. She blew me away the first time I saw her on Six Sense. I’ve been watching all her films since then. And she’s not a diva…loves her!

  • That looks like such a good show! I wish I had that channel. Isn’t John Corbett the DJ from Northern Exposure? He’s ok. Definitely no Toni though!
