Leonardo DiCaprio does the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge right

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is getting old at this point – too many people throwing water over their heads for attention without actually giving back. The celebrities involved, however, seem to be making actual donations, and Leonardo DiCaprio has gone and outdone the lot, because he’s not only done the challenge, but he donated $100,000 to the cause.

As Leo wrote on his Facebook page accompanying the video:

“Hello from Lake Athabasca, we’re here learning about the Canadian tar sands. We took a moment to join the #IceBucketChallenge movement in support of the ALS Association. My friends Chief Adam of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation challenges Dave Collyer, president of Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, Chief Courtoreille of the Mikisew Cree First Nation challenges Mark Little of Suncor Canada, and Sierra Club President Michael Brune challenges Shell CEO Ben van Beurden. And me? In addition to a donation from my foundation, I challenge Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.”

Good for Leo for being so awesome and actually ponying up some real money. More celebs should follow in his footsteps.

  • I pretty sure that just about every celebrity that has accepted and completed the challenge, has also donated money. They most likely didn’t feel the need to mention it or how much they were planning on donating.
