Pamela Anderson Opens Up About Her History Of Sexual Abuse

Pamela+Anderson

Pamela Anderson is putting a brave foot forward by opening up about her history of sexual abuse. Her childhood sounds awful — she was continuously abused starting at the age of 6. She credits her abuse with her love of animals and charity work. From The Daily Mail via MTV News:

“I feel now might be the time to reveal a few of my most painful memories,” the actress told an audience at a backgammon competition beach party the Foundation, according to the Daily Mail. “At the risk of over-exposing myself, again, or being inappropriate, again, I thought I might share with you why I am doing this.”

At age 6, Ms. Anderson was molested by her female babysitter. At age 12, a friend’s “older brother decided to teach me backgammon, which led into a back massage, which led into rape – my first heterosexual experience.” He was 25. Then years later, her first boyfriend arranged a gang rape.

She says this is why she trusts animals more than humans:

This meant I had a hard time trusting humans. My parents tried to keep me safe, but to me, the world was not a safe place. My dad was an alcoholic, my mom worked two jobs, my mom was always crying, dad didn’t always come home.

I prayed to the whales with my feet in the ocean, my only real friends until I had children.

My loyalty was with the animal kingdom and I vowed to protect them and only them.

God, that’s so awful. I had no idea about any of this. Good for her for coming forward, because by doing so, she could help so many more people in a similar situation.
