A Dutch filmmaker is beginning work on a film based on the disappearance (and presumed death) of Natalee Holloway in Aruba in 2005. It’ll be based on the book Vuurkoraal by a Dutch journalist. (Google Translate can’t seem to translate “Vuurkoraal” into English for me … can any of you do it?)
I assume the film will be in Dutch, although it would probably be a lot more profitable if they did it in English and marketed it here. This is the same country where people rushed out in hordes to see United 93, which totally fucking baffled me at the time and still does.

Natalie’s mom grew up down the street from us in a small town here in Arkansas. Her mom and my mom are in the same Bible class. Its a scarey feeling to be in your own comfortable home and watch something of this magnitude go down to a human that shared your same childhood street and experiences with. I think about our mothers praying together. Not sure how I feel about the movie thing. But Im so sad and angry for no answers.

Look, although I did not personally know Natalee, she did go to a school about 20 minutes away from me. A very rich school. It’s terrible she’s gone, but a lot of things went wrong. Like sending your child to aruba with only like 5 parents or so chaperoning was ridiculous. I’m not trying to be mean here, but the concept lacked any common sense. Whatever, I’m off the soapbox….
