Remember Bloodhound Gang? Russia’s Mad At Them

The band Bloodhound Gang is probably best known for the song “The Bad Touch” AKA the song that goes, “You and me baby ain’t nothing but mammals so let’s do it like they do on the Discovery Channel.” Yes, they were true poets of the ’90s music scene.

They performed at a music festival in Odessa, Ukraine when they made a decision that ultimately got them banned from appearing at their scheduled set at the Kubana music festival in Russia. From Aceshowbiz.com:

A Russian festival removed Bloodhound Gang from its lineup after the band messed with the national flag during their recent gig in Odessa, Ukraine. During the concert, Bloodhound Gang’s bassist Jared Hasselhoff pushed the Russian flag down the front of his pants and pulling it out of the back.

“Don’t tell Putin,” he shouted to the audience, referring to Russian president Vladimir Putin. Ukrainian crowd, who considered the flag stunt as a joke, applauded Hasselhoff. The bassist then threw the flag to the audience.

Of course many people at the concert caught the whole thing on their phones, and some videos of the incident went viral. That’s when things started to go bad. (Pun unintended.)

“Bloodhound Gang packing suitcases. These idiots won’t perform in Kubana,” Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky tweeted.

Hasselhoff apologized at a news conference held at the music festival in the city of Anapa, a local news portal reported. He said he didn’t plan to offend anyone and it was a band tradition for everything thrown from the stage to be passed through his pants.

When the band headed to the Anapa airport on Saturday, angry locals reportedly threw eggs and tomatoes at their van. The band members were also beaten up by a group of nationalist in the airport lounge.

Love that the Russian Culture Minister is so blunt and that as all this is going on, the British Culture Minister is pissed off at Kelly Clarkson.

I also just want to note that bassist is 42. Here’s video of the incident. Skip to 40 seconds.
