My Chemical Romance Broke Up; Hot Topic Is Devastated

my chemical romance band

My Chemical Romance, a fantastically mediocre band, broke up. I guess I’m in the minority in thinking they’re very whatever, considering they’ve been around for 12 years and produced four records and got one Grammy nomination.

They left this statement on their site:

Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We’ve gotten to go places we never knew we would. We’ve been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We’ve shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure.

Okay, great.

Some of their noteworthy hits include “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)”, “Helena”, “Welcome To The Black Parade” and “Honey This Mirror Isn’t Big Enough…”

For fans of My Chemical Romance, do you think it was time for them to disband or do you think their best stuff was ahead? I’m not being snarky here, I’m just curious, not knowing a whole lot about their music.

  • I’ve listened to them since the beginning and they’ve come a long way from their angsty emo debut (though I admit I was into it at the time). I’m a little sad they’re disbanded. Some of their recent singles were pretty good to me.

  • My Chemical Romance experienced a lot of amazing things. They achieved so much in those 12 years. I’m a huge fan of the band, and always will be. They’ve helped influence and inspire the lives of their fans. One of the reasons why their fans are so loyal. No one can really say that it was time for them to disband. Personally, they’ve always made amazing music and they kept getting better and better. They chose to break up and that was their decision. They felt it was time. And everyone of their fans respect their decision, even though they will be greatly missed by the music scene and their fans.

  • I actually loathed them when I first heard them but over the years I became a huge fan. This is really sad. They’ve certainly changed a lot musically but I actually really enjoyed the newer style too. This really is a shame… here’s to hoping they’ll do a Fall Out Boy and get back together. Probably wishful thinking though.

  • mcr is not mediocre at all they have grown so much and their music is really good actually. but i think it was time for it to end i know it hasnt been so easy to write new material and the image of the band is kind of outdated (for me). its exciting to see what gerard is going to do next!!!

  • I wouldn’t call myself an aficionado by any means of that scene, but I enjoyed their albums every now and then. We saw them live once, and the main singer dude actually has a hell of a stage presence. Very charismatic. Maybe he’ll go solo or something.

  • It was never about the fame. It was about creating music that saved people from sadness, related to people and created an environment where people are accepted. Shame on you.
