The Monkees’ Davy Jones Has Passed Away

The Monkees’ Davy Jones—he was the cute tiny elfin one, especially compared to that smirking ogre Micky Dolenz—has died. Jones was only 66.

According to TMZ’s earliest reports, Jones died of a heart attack this morning. Multiple sources are saying Jones had complained of chest pains the night before.

The Monkees were a four-piece band assembled for The Monkees, the 1960s TV show. Jones and Dolenz split responsibilities as lead singer and frontman. Jones sang lead vocals on “Daydream Believer,” one of the band’s hits.

At the beginning the Monkees were, by all accounts, a “fake band,” but the Monkees fought the television show’s producers for more creative control. They eventually began playing their own instruments and writing many of their own songs, achieving a sort of artistic legitimacy.

Before joining the Monkees, Davy Jones was a horse jockey; he returned to racing horses after the Monkees disbanded.

According to his publicist, Jones died in his sleep.

  • I went to a Monkees concert back in Merrillville Indiana in, oh probably 2002ish, it was Davy, Mickey, and Peter and they put on a really entertaining show, singing all their hits.

I LOVED the Monkees! I know, it was cheesy but there was something about it….there was no cussing or this attitude that since a camera is pointed at you anything is all right to do. It was clean-there was an purity back then that in a way I wish we still had.

And the concert really took me back to a place in my life where things were good, when innocence was still a part of my childhood. Those moments are really so precious.

(Although…when Davy got up to sing all these women threw panties at him…which….I still don’t understand…lol I was embarrassed for him…lol)

Rest in Peace Davy…you are loved…=)

  • Okay, I admit it, I’m old-just turned 48 last week-and I’m sad! I used to watched the Monkees and I still think “The Last Train to Clarksville” is a great song.
A bad heart-he was probably spending his evenings at the pub, eating awful English food.
The jockey story-I didn’t know-interesting. Jockeys are really serious athletes, but they can also live really rough lives. I guess that was what happened to Davy. May he rest in peace.

  • People, something is rotten in the state of Denmark. Something is very, VERY off in this case. He had just had a physical, he had a clean bill of health. And yet, he just “drops dead”.

If you go back to 2009, there were numerous reports that had his young wife abusing him, beating him up. Go look those up and then ask “What the hell?”
