Today's Evil Beet Gossip

Elvis Presley’s private jet sells at auction

The aircraft, without engines and cockpit instruments, may be a challenge for the new owner to transport from Roswell, New Mexico, where it has been sitting for nearly 40 years.

A dusty, run down 60 year old jet shouldn’t cost you very much these days, unless of course it comes with a legacy.

The 1962 Lockheed 1329 JetStar that once flew Elvis from state to state for concerts and drugs, just crossed the auction block at the Mecum Kissimmee Collector Car auction.

Elvis’ ex wife Priscilla was there to see the jet sell for $260,000.

According to Robb Report, “bidding started at $100,000, jumped to $150,000 but settled at $200,000. Only with plenty of coaxing did it get up to $240,000, where it stayed for a number of minutes. Finally, $260,000 came from a telephone bidder, the reserve came off and the hammer fell.”

The name of the buyer has not been disclosed.

The interior still has the JetStar’s red-velvet upholstery on the seats and walls.
