Here’s what Michael Strahan is taking to space

I gotta be honest. I don’t care too much one way or another what Michael Strahan does, but I was perplexed by his payload list.

On December 9th, Michael will be on the latest Blue Origin flight into space. Like what Bill Shatner did the other month.

Everyone is limited to 3lbs of crap they can bring with them so Michael chose very specifically.

Here’s the list:

12 shell casings from the 12-gun salute performed at his father Gene’s funeral
His Super Bowl XLII Ring
His Pro Football Hall of Fame Ring of Excellence
Two watches: a pocket watch that belonged to his maternal grandfather, and a rare De Bethune DB28 Kind of Blue timepiece with a celestial face and moon-phase function.
A pearl necklace from his girlfriend Kayla Quick’s late grandmother
His ABC and FOX employee ID cards
A lucky $2 bill.

I guess I just don’t get the why.  I mean I totally get that this will be the heady trip of his life and you want to have something, a keepsake, to remember the trip by.  But bringing outside things along doesn’t seem like it would fulfill that.  You’ll be up there for 3 minutes.

Either way, I am, as many are, curious about everything to do with these space flights.  So if you want to bring the dish rag, who am I to question it.
