I realize this ages me terribly, but I saw New Jack City in the theater. Which, btw, counted as being brave at the time. There was a rash of shootings at showings of the gangster flick.
Ice T played an under cover cop during height of the 80’s crack epidemic. Wesley Snipes was Nino, the slick head of a gang that was just blazing a trail to top dog. And when he gets there he is a tyrannical mad man. Chris Rock had one of his first film gigs as Pookie. A crack addict that plays both sides of the fence for fed and Nino.
Look, all I’m saying is watch it if you haven’t already. Then, in what I assume will be late 2020, early 2021, you’ll be all ready to see the new version. No one has been chosen for the cast or crew, but we know it will be written by Snowfall’s Malcolm M. Mays.
