New York Times creates infomercial for racist hotline

Hold up.  It’s satire. But it’s a serious problem and really deserves the attention this well made two and a half minute “advert” will hopefully generate.

Niecy Nash headlines a satirical public service announcement for 1-844-WYT-FEAR (1-844-998-3327), playing a woman who invents a hotline for white people to check on black people they encounter (instead of calling 911). In reality a telephone hotline has been created for people to recount experiences of racism and racial profiling. The video also stars Jenn Lyon (also from Claws) and recounts different ways black people have been profiled this year. These range from getting coffee, going to work, going home and moving into your house (with an appearance by Obama White House aide Darren Martin).
