Jason Derulo didn’t want to marry Jordin Sparks

Jason Derulo and Jordin Sparks recently ended their three-year relationship and no one really understood why. They seemed to really be happy together and worked well… but all good things must come to an end, I suppose. Especially since Jordin really wanted to get married and Jason was feeling pressured and did NOT want to walk down the aisle.

From ABC News:

“Though I think it is a private matter and intended to keep my break-up Jordin personal, due to bogus and irresponsible lies being reported by insensitive media outlets it became necessary for me to comment,” Derulo told ABC News. “I spent three great years with Jordin and she is one of the most amazing people that I have ever met. But as in all relationships there are ups and downs and at this time we have decided to amicably part. Infidelity, cheating or deceit played no part in our relationship or our break-up, and I hope that people respect our privacy as we move forward with our lives.”

From People:

Derulo denied any infidelity or ego problems, but he did admit to host Ryan Seacrest that time apart because of their busy schedules created stress in the relationship.

“It may have weighed on her more than it weighed on me,” Derulo told Seacrest. “She was in [a] frustrated space a lot.”

Though he says expectations and “pressures of marriage” were a point of contention for him, Derulo has no plans on avoiding performing songs like his hit single “Marry Me.”

“I think it’ll be tough to perform a lot of different songs,” said the singer. “But maybe it’ll be special in a different way because that was a huge time in my life.”

Ah, well. At least it seems to actually be amicable with them and they were able to end things maturely (at least so far).

  • I’m impressed he’s handling things so maturely and honestly to the press WITHOUT giving many details…sad, I was really rooting for them, but they’re still young with plenty of mileage left so life is good

  • That was a well-crafted statement, and done with class. Sad that he had to comment, but hopefully that will put an end to speculation.
