Jennifer Lopez lost 10 lbs by going vegan

Jennifer Lopez looks great for 44 – I’ve said it before and it warrants saying again. While we know celebs have access to chefs and trainers and other stuff us layman could never afford, good genes also help… and apparently going vegan, as well. I call bullshit on that, but let’s go with it.

Jen decided to adopt a strict vegan diet and forced her family, friends and 6-year-old twins to do it with her. She also has hardcore 6-hour dance workouts every day, as well, which I would imagine helps. Starving yourself and overexercising will certainly lead you to lose 10 lbs, but please, by all means, tell us all about it, girl.

From US Weekly:

‘You got to work out, you got to watch what you eat. It’s a job – you’ve got to buckle down,’ the pop diva told the July 7 edition of Us Weekly.

‘I feel great mentally and physically!’

For the past five weeks, the two-time Grammy nominee whittled her waist from a size 4 to 2 after cutting out dairy, meat, and gluten.

Even after having two children, Jennifer looks visibly slimmer than she did in 2004 or even 20 years ago in 1994. Back in April, the I Luh Ya Papi singer hired exercise physiologist Marco Borges, whose clients include Beyoncé, Jay Z, Gwen Stefani, Shakira, and Pharrell Williams. When JLo’s not dining on quinoa enchiladas, black-bean burgers, and zucchini ‘pasta’ – she indulges in Borges’ 22 Days cherry chocolate bliss bar.

For support, the American Idol judge ‘got her family’ to go vegan with her, including her six-year-old twins Emme and Max.

‘Sometimes my son will be like “I want American cheese. I don’t like this vegan cheese!”‘ Lopez told Extra on June 6, adding she does allows them to munch on chips.

I mean, beyond the completely misguided idea that meat and dairy are bad for you, I’m not here to tell anyone how to live their lives. You wanna go vegan? Knock yourself out. Whatever diet – and I mean that in the “how you eat on a daily basis” sense rather than a “fad thing you follow for now” sense – you choose to adopt is fine by me, but to me, it just seems like she’s living on foliage and getting far fewer calories than she probably needs, especially considering her hardcore workouts, and yet attributing this weight loss to being vegan. Newsflash: I know a lot of vegans who are REALLY unhealthy, just as much as I do those who follow omnivorous diets.

That being said, zucchini noodles are amazing – I don’t even eat pasta anymore because they’re so good. However, you will have to pry cheese out of my cold, dead hands. More cheese for me, JLo!

  • I’ve been vegan for 8 years and only after doing the research (including a nutrition course for a semester in college). I’m sure JLo can afford chefs/dieticians/whatever who tell her what she needs to know, but I think it’s a little dodgy to sign up her 6 year-olds for the ride. Their bodies are still developing, and, while I’m sure it’s possible–especially with JLo’s resources–to get all of the nutrients they need via a vegan diet, why bother? They’re not making the choice for themselves! Let them eat some damn meat and eggs. Unless kids want to be vegan/vegetarian, I think it’s mildly irresponsible to change their diets so drastically.

    • Agree. My friend and his wife are both vegetarians, but they’ve decided to let their children choose whether they want to eat meat. One of them has chosen to be a vegetarian, the other two haven’t.

  • If I could afford to work out for 6 HOURS a day and then hire a chef to make me fabulous meals I’m sure I’d look pretty great too.

  • How does being vegan equal starving yourself? And dairy IS pretty bad for you. If it wasn’t, you’d still be sucking your mum’s tit. Animals wean off of milk for a reason.
