M.I.A. Goes After Oprah

There are a few things that you kinda sorta don’t do when you’re a famous person, and one of those things is “shit talk Oprah”. You know, because she’s kinda one of the most powerful humans on the planet and she can make or destroy you. Well, you wanna know who doesn’t give a fuck about that? M.I.A., duh. Because she’ll take down anyone.

M.I.A. and Oprah supposedly had a bad encounter at a recent event where the talkshow host was making a speech about the cultural significance of Lady Gaga. According to M.I.A., both of those things are a bunch of BS:

Oprah seemed like she was giving me the cold shoulder. She was with Iman (Bowie). Iman was always dancing with me, hugging and kissing me, but Oprah seemed really pissed off with me. Also she made this huge speech at the ball praising Lady Gaga and about how she (Lady Gaga) is helping Americans to be the best of themselves. There’s millions of other Americans who represent that for me. Is (it) about numbers? About how much you’re selling? Is it truly about the journey? Because (Lady Gaga’s) journey isn’t that difficult: to go from the f*cking Upper East Side to a f*cking performing arts school and on to a stage at the museum of f*cking wherever. That journey’s about four miles.

Damn. If that’s true about Oprah, I can’t say I disagree. M.I.A. makes me mad uncomfortable sometimes, but in a better way than Lady Gaga does. And you know, that is kinda true about Gaga just being some Upper East Side bitch named Stephanie with a wig on.

But like, don’t be upset when you’re not on the Favorite Things list this year, Maya.

  • while I’m a fan of both gaga and MIA, I think that jealousy is her own worst enemy. This about the 10th interview that she has given where she bashes gg and pretty much everyone who is a fan. This coming from a girl who’s apparently engaged to the son of a billionaire? that was my little stab at her… but the big O makes a point where gaga is influencing many people around the world. And maybe MIA is a little bummed that her Paper Planes song is maybe the only thing that Americans will know her for… I really hope she just gets over it and moves on. I mean, life cant be all that hard for her while dancing with Iman, having a successful music career and hob-nobbing with the world’s most widely known and celebrated people.

  • I actually think that is a pretty smart comment. You could find many more inspiring journeys. It is a legitimate question.

  • Who the f*ck cares about who had a bigger “journey”? Gaga’s music, style, and personality are much more interesting than M.I.A.’s. That’s all I care about.

  • MIA’s music sucks. There I said it. Besides, every interview I’ve ever read has her bashing everyone who is more successful than her. Sounds like someone is still on a journey of maturity.

  • MIA’s music is some of the most original music out there today. That is what I admire about her most. I can see her frustration with the acclam that Gaga receives. Who by contrast, has some of the least original music out there. I have neither of them on rotation on my ipod currently. But I know a good musician when I hear one. I had some of the best nights out with MIA’s ‘Paper Airplanes’ as the soundtrack. Gaga’s talent in performance art overshadows her own musical ability any day. But good for both of them, they found their niche.

  • regardless of mias music its true gaga is a spoil bitch and somebody who screams for atention a little bit to much. she needs to tone it down

  • At least she’s not seeking attention through harming people. She’s good at what she does, being extraordinary. She makes the world a more colourful place, and all the while preaching about love & unity. I don’t see why people want to keep bashing her, who cares if she’s from the “Upper East Side” or whatever, that just makes her more lovable in my opinion. She doesn’t seem snooty, vindictive or judgmental like how you would imagine one from the Upper side of anywhere would be. Stop being so shallow & full of hate, she’s about music, stop judging her on her looks or where she came from.

  • Gaga sin’t an artist. Sorry, but if you think there is something original about her you are deluded. Her music is shit by the way, and she isn’t even the one making it! I don’t care if that woman just fell off the face of the earth. So sick of her
