Christina Hendricks says “No, thanks!” to kids

christina hendricks

Christina Hendricks has been married to husband Geoffrey Arend since 2009, so everyone wants to know something very important: WHEN ARE THEY HAVING BABIES?! Well, turns out, the answer to that is… never! Turns out, not everyone in possession of ovaries is desperate to procreate.

Preach it, Christina:

“We got a puppy, and that’s my idea of starting a family. People say, ‘Oh, that’s practice for parenting,’ but if it’s practice for anything it’s to be a mom to another puppy,” Hendricks, 38, tells Health in their May issue, on stands April 18.

“We’ve decided that we are not really interested in having children.”

She continues: “It’s just very normal for people to say, ‘Well, when you guys have kids …’ And then when I say, ‘Actually, I don’t think we’re going to do that,’ people will say, ‘Oh, you say that now …’ It doesn’t bother me, though. And, you know, there’s a small chance I could change my mind.”

Good for her! I like dogs more than babies, too (though babies ARE really cute and squishy… as long as I can give them back). If you think I’m making a big deal out of the fact that a woman has come out and said outright that she doesn’t want kids, then think of this: the fact that this is even a topic for discussion, that people are asking it and reporting on it, speaks for itself.

Plus, she was probably scarred by Joan’s experience on Mad Men.

  • Good for her! I too made a conscious decision at an early age that I didn’t want children. I am 58 now and still do not regret that decision. I remain completely puzzled by people who can’t understand why someone doesn’t want kids. Why is that so hard to accept? Some people are just not cut out to be parents and yet that seems unacceptable in society. What I find really unacceptable is how many people do have children that really should never have done so. I wonder why that’s never discussed?

  • I always ended up balking at relationships because of the kids my boyfriends had from previous marriages. Taking care of some other woman’s kids, when I don’t even want them myself? Yeah, like that was going to happen.

  • I’m 26, and I’ve been with my boyfriend for 11 years. People keep expecting us to get married and have children, but we don’t want either of those things. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard, “Oh, you’ll change your mind.” No, I won’t. I just want my two awesome cats and my one kind-of-okay boyfriend.

    Anyway, good for Christina Hendricks.

  • Never wanted them either! My two kitties are good enough for me and my husband!

To “anonymous” I know a woman who has two kids now in their 20’s and they won’t have anything to do with her and she’s still gonna die alone so I guess it didn’t make any difference to her whether she had kids or not did it?

  • I think it would be cruel to bring a child in this world despite lacking the desire or the ‘motherly instinct’ simply because of societal pressures. To know you weren’t wanted, but were born simply because ‘it’s what you do’ seems awful to me.

People who want kids are fantastic, as are people who don’t ever have them. It’s the ones who don’t want them yet have them anyway that are despicable.
