Matthew Perry’s ‘Odd Couple’ Remake May Find a Home at CBS

I don’t really know anything at all about The Odd Couple in its original state, so unfortunately it doesn’t mean much to me that Matthew Perry‘s remake has been given a pilot order by CBS and may indeed make it to air. Of course, it’s great to see that Perry might have another job as he’s had a tough go of things over the past few years as far as TV shows go (and, you know, personally), so this could be big!

Here’s a bit of scoop from Digital Spy:

The new version is also written by Joe Keenan (Frasier). Executive producers also include Danny Jacobson, Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman, Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum.

“Ever since seeing the movie The Odd Couple when I was 10 years old, it has been a dream for me to play Oscar Madison,” said Perry.

“To be given the opportunity to develop a modern version of it for CBS has put a permanent smile across my face. Plus, I think it’s time for me to be in front of a live audience again. I miss that. The search for Felix Ungar is on!”

Well, fair enough! Any Odd Couple fans around here? Do you think the series should be brought back or left alone?

  • I’m a huge Odd Couple fan to the point that I can recite long stretches of dialog from the film AND the old tv series. In a word, this is what I think.

No. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.

Give it a rest. Look, I do understand that the play does get revived from time to time. I saw Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick in it on Broadway … It was good, but it wasn’t great (the chemistry they had in the Producers was not there for the Odd Couple – but Nathan was hilarious as Oscar). The ‘geniuses’ (idiots) who think that revivng (rebooting) the show are FORGETTING that the sequel made to the film and TV movies made after the initial series was over were awful. And they had the ORIGINAL casts (and there are no better duos EVER than Matthau/Lemmon and Klugman/Randall).

And anyway, a good portion of sitcoms now are basically a version of the Odd Couple premise. So WHATS THE POINT?

  • I’m a big fan of Mathew’s but I think it may be time to put away “the whoopy cushion” and pick up a brief case. He seems to be really good playing a lawyer or exec in dramas so why not embrace it.

  • I have always love watching matthew perry act. he was awesome on friends. still watching the show today wishful dream is to meet him hopefully one day. I watch the 1st show and followed it to the very last.
