Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Good Time’ Song Plagiarism Cost Them $800,000

Owl City fucking sucks, man. The dude literally must’ve listened to Deathcab For Cutie/Postal Service until it’s all he could hear in his mind and then just went out and impersonated it for an entire record and yet NO ONE called him out for this. His entire artistry is based on plagiarism, so it’s no surprise that ‘Good Time’, that song that featured Carly Rae Jepsen and got stuck in everyone’s heads to the point where we wanted to jump out of our windows, was actually a copy of another song.

Songwriter Ally Burnett filed a lawsuit saying that ‘Good Time’ was a rip-off of her own song, ‘Ah, It’s a Love Song’, which was written way earlier. Turns out, a judge actually agreed with her and now ‘Good Time’s royalties company, BMI, has been ordered to pay $804,156 in compensation to Ally. Jackpot!

Give a listen to Ally’s song and then Owl City’s – do you think they sound the same? I sure hope so, because the entire chorus line is blatantly pulled from Ally’s song (which isn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be before listening):

  • Wait a second… Are you fucking retarded? The two songs sound nothing alike. It was the first time I had heard both. I am not a fan of either artist. I found Ally’s to be very forgettable, and nothing like the Owl City song.
