Tommy Hilfiger probably isn’t the first designer to come to mind when you think of Zooey Deschanel‘s fashion aesthetic, but indeed they’re working together to create a new capsule collection for the brand, and the stuff is actually pretty cute, right? It’s all a little too patriotic for my liking, but it’s definitely workable and Zooey stayed true to herself for sure.
Here’s what Hilfiger told WWD:
“They are Sixties-inspired short dresses,” Hilfiger noted. “There is a lot of red, white and blue, but done in a Zooey way with interesting detail and flirty fabrics. They are very Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy — really from the Sixties in London. That’s not something we would normally put in our regular sportswear line — maybe we’d be inspired by the Sixties for the runway, but it’s a new way to look at fun, American classics.”
Those include several shirtdresses, for example, as well as peekaboo numbers featuring prints inside pleats. Piqué and oxford cloth, as well as silks and linens, are among the fabrics. The overall aesthetic merges Mod with nautical, or “Modical” as Deschanel, who named each dress after a friend, described it.
And Zooey’s thoughts on the collaboration:
“I am a fashion fanatic, and I am always looking for new ways to incorporate vintage, feminine pieces into my own wardrobe,” she said. “Tommy and I share many of the same inspirations — old-school music, classic films and old Hollywood icons — and his guidance during the design process helped to put a really unique twist on each piece.”
Nice. This collection will sell like hotcakes, I’m sure – I don’t think I’ve met a girl in her 20s who wasn’t absolutely obsessed with Zooey and her style, so I think we can all agree it’ll be a success. A couple more pics below…

My husbands has been in the military for 23 years have served 5 tours of duty each lasting a year . He was chief of security for the colonel . He is second highest in the world for military police and he travels the world teaching school . My son is a ranger for the past 5 years and is on his third tour so don’t tell me anything about the military because you have no clue what so ever . You are just a loser who is a no body who runs their mouth with no knowledge . Don’t ever speak for another military officer . I was saying that I didn’t want the thanks of a neocon chicken hawk…. My point being, that if it is so important to them to thank me, why didn’t they serve? And ask your husband/son what they think. Serving is a choice and not all people should serve . That doesn’t mean that they can’t be greatful for those who have served . I did ask my husband and he said it takes a special person to serve and it can’t just be someone who doesn’t know what to do and that he would only want someone backing him up who truly was devoted to the service not to just some one who wanted to do it for a check because their are a lot of people who think they will never be deployed and just want a check . My life has been with my husband and the army and you could not be more wrong . I’ll be sure to show everyone this and I’m sure if you were in arms reach you would get your ass kick by a real military officer . You sound like one of those people who served and had no idea what you were in for and ran the minute you could get out because a true soldier would never talk the way you do and this is not the first time you have said idiotic comments about our military . Your husband is almost right…. It takes a certain type, not special person to serve. Its also true that many are there to collect a check…. are you aware of the hundreds/thousands of service people who cant serve overseas because their credit is so hosed that they are a security risk?
