Harvey Weinstein and Meryl Streep are Making an Anti-NRA Movie

Harvey Weinstein‘s newest film project is called The Senator’s Wife. It stars Meryl Streep and will openly criticise the National Rifle Association, which Harvey thinks is a terrible organization that promotes violence in this country. He went on Howard Stern’s radio show to talk about the project and wasn’t shy about its aims:

“We’re going to take this issue head-on, and they’re going to wish they weren’t alive after I’m done with them. It’s going to be like crash and burn.”

“I never want to have a gun. I don’t think we need guns in this country, and I hate it, and I think the NRA is a disaster area.”

Fair enough. Y’all know I’m in for anything Meryl Streep does, so let’s get this party started. However, I think Weinstein needs to tread carefully when it comes to the propaganda side of things, because the most effective way to get a message across is through subtlety and presenting a story that everyone can relate to, right?

Also, Harvey Weinstein is powerful and important and all of that, but the NRA is going to wish they were dead after seeing your movie? Uh… they’ll probably just wish YOU were dead… via gunfire or something. That seems more like their style. If massive lobbying and multiple school shootings haven’t made the NRA rethink their policies and morals, I doubt a movie starring Meryl Streep is going to do it, unfortunately.

  • I can’t imagine Meryl being ok with her name being used like some sort of pawn. Has she ever spoken out against gun ownership in the past? This sounds like a case of Harvey “shooting” his mouth off.

He also said he thinks no one should be allowed to have any guns, which makes him an idiot, IMO. I own a gun business, and while I have guns that I can and would use to protect myself or my home, most of what my family has are for hunting and sport. If we all go and turn our guns in, or whatever he thinks we should do, then you know who will still be armed? The bad guys. And then we’re ALL toast.

      • No Mister J. YOU are the one who doesn’t realize the FACTS are NOT in your favor. The last time studies were done, anywhere from 68,000 to 2,000,000 times per year, guns were used for DEFENSIVE purposes. FAR outweighing the 30,000 people killed (over half of gun deaths are suicides).

Of course, you don’t realize that in countries where guns are banned, violent crime rates are MUCH higher than here in the USA.

  • Weinstein produced Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction….both super violent movies…he made hundreds of millions off these movies. What a hypocrite.

    • I know eh what a two faced douche bag. That being said he may want to watch his back cos if there is a gun totin loony out there that thinks he’s gonna lose his gun rights because of this movie BANG BANG Harvey.

    • Say it ain’t so, a moron like Harvey Weinstein thinks people like him know better than everyone else?

Maybe he can tell us next that the 5,000,000 members of the NRA should listen to the Brady Campaign (anti-gun nuts whose membership struggles to get past 30,000) and left wing doofuses like Harvey. At least Meryl Streep is smart enough to keep her idiocy to herself.

  • You can hate the NRA as a lobby and still believe in the constitutional rights to have guns. Just like people hate PETA as a non-profit but still think the idea behind the organization is good. From what i got from his interview he thinks the NRA is corrupt and wants to expose that, i don’t see anything wrong with that. And while your right that it prob won’t change the policies of those higher up, it may change the minds of its supporters and that’s a start to get something changed. a movie with meryl streep is better than nothing. and I do love meryl.

    • Stop the freakin presses a organization / lobby group is corrupt. What next government officials are in it for the money and power and don’t give a rats ass about the people once they are elected?
