Britney Spears has become something of a gay icon, but is it something she appreciates? She made some comments in an interview that people are using against her, saying she’s exploiting her LGBT fanbase by “marketing” them. Sort of like fetishizing them (and I know we can all think of another pop princess who’s been accused of doing that). Here’s what she said on 99.7 NOW FM in San Francisco, via Huffington Post:
A lot of my hair stylists and my beauty team that I work with are gay so I hang out with gays a lot and I just think they’re adorable and hilarious.
The issue here is how Britney lumped the entire gay community into an “adorable” and “hilarious” bunch, like they’re not individuals and are puppies or something. I don’t know. I honestly don’t think she meant offend. What do you think? Was Britney being insensitive?
its weirdly worded. she was probably just saying that her team is hilarious. im sure she wasnt making a comment on allll gays. but that could be because i heart her.

there are boring gays….just like there are boring straights….but for the most part, the gay folks that cross my path ARE adorable & hilarious, and generally way more fun than a lot of “straights” i know. so fuck it, my dear queens ought to take it all as a compliment. ya know, they often call us “breeders” like it’s a bad thing, or odd more like, and i’m not offended… fuck it all. let’s dance.

Well said baby….. That’s been my experience too! When a friend of mine finally sacked up enough to admit he was gay, the first words out of my mouth were “the king is dead, long live the queen!” btw, what the fuck you running around nekkid for, where your polka pants?

I have a lot of gay friends that are men and I think they are hilarious!! I love them! Us women who love them are also called “fruit flies”!

Hopefully gays will simmer down and not go all politically correct. I’m gay and I’l take it as a compliment, even though I know she’s wrong. But usually, when we’re with a cute & bubbly girl, we’re adorable & hilarious.
