Michael Douglas Is Really Mad That His Son Is In Jail

Michael Douglas won an Emmy last night for playing Liberace in Behind The Candelabra, one of the best films ever because of the facial expressions given to us by Mr. Rob Lowe. When getting his award, Mr. Douglas gave his son a shout out (via E Online):

My oldest son, Cameron, I’m hoping I’ll be able and they’ll allow me to see him soon.

See, Cameron Douglas is in federal prison on drug related charges. He elaborated to reporters backstage:

My son is in federal prison. He’s been a drug addict for a large part of his life. Part of the punishments—if you happen to have a slip, and this is for a prisoner who is nonviolent, as about a half-million of our drug-addicted prisoners are—he’s spent almost two years in solitary confinement and right now I’m being told that I cannot see him for two years. It’s been over a year now. And I’m questioning the system. Obviously at first, I was certainly disappointed in my son. But I’ve reached a point now where I’m very disappointed with the system.

I’m on Michael Douglas’ side on this one. Here’s a timeline of Cameron Douglas’ drug problems so you can decide for yourself.

— 1999. Found with cocaine. Arrested for possession. Misdemeanor charge.
— 2007. Charged with felony possession of cocaine.
— 2009. Arrested for possession of 0.5 pounds of methamphetamine and charged with intent to distribute. This charge comes with 10 years.
–January 2010. Pleads guilty to conspiracy to distribute drugs and to heroin possession (apparently his girlfriend was hiding some in an electric toothbrush, wtf?) while he was under house arrest.
April 2010. Sentenced to 5 years in prison for possessing heroin, and dealing methamphetamine and cocaine. Goes to prison.
— 2011. Pleads guilty to possessing drugs in prison. He’s sentenced to an addition 4 1/2 years.
— 2013. Found with drugs in his system at a different prison (he got moved because a prisoner broke his leg.) Was sent to solitary confinement. Lost appeal to have his sentence reduced. Will not get out until early 2018. (Thanks to Wikipedia for all the info.)

Given all his fuckups, I still don’t think he belongs in solitary confinement. I think he belongs in rehab.

Adding to Douglas’ stress is the absence of his wife by his side last night (though he did thank her in his speech). They’re definitely taking a break. As he told reporters on September 3, “We are fine. My wife and I are fine…[it’s a] temporary separation.” C Z-J’s rep added, “Catherine and Michael are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage.”

  • This dumbass sounds like a male Lindsay Lohan break after break after break and he never learned a fuckin thing. As far as I see it he is getting yet another break by being put in solitary there he can’t get drugs from anyone and maybe just maybe he will be clean if he gets out.

  • Love to hear Hollywood libtards whining when their worthless progeny screw up and they FINALLY get held to account. Sorry, his son is nothing but a CRIMINAL. He is NOT just a “drug addict”, but has been caught several times distributing drugs NOT for his own personal use.

    Too bad, so sad.

  • I can understand that it must be hard for any parent to see their child in this situation. But the fact remains: doesn’t matter if your parent is a celebrity or not. You do the crime, you pay the time. Or you should. I’m more bothered by the hypocrisy I’ve seen in media and blog coverage of this. Somehow, a lot of people are hot and bothered that this is happening to Cameron and Michael is not getting to see him. But other celebrities have gotten pass after pass after pass. WTF? Why is that ok for those folks? But not ok that this is happening to the Douglas family?

  • I guess Mr Douglas should have been there more when his son was growing up instead of whoring around LA doing drugs and setting a shit example for his son.
