Miley Wonders Why You’re Surprised By Her VMA Stunt

Miley Cyrus at the VMAs is the biggest, most obvious showbiz mess of 2013 so far – that’s a pretty universally agreed fact. Then she went and upped the ante by sucking on a hammer and getting naked on construction equipment for the ‘Wrecking Ball’ video. While most people are asking WHY GOD WHY, Miley wants to know why you’re surprised.

Appearing on Alan Carr’s UK talk show, Chatty Man, Miley started wanging on about “artistic expression” and saying that all her critics need to shut up because they keep clicking on the stories, so she’s going to keep making them (via DS):

“I didn’t really think anything about it until the next morning when the world was going crazy about it, because when I came off the stage I didn’t really think anything of it. It wasn’t really about the competition or what other people think, it was really more about expressing yourself as much as you can, and really celebrating your video.

“I thought it was dope when Gaga came out [for her performance], it was such a tribute to her video. And that’s what ours was really too, so I didn’t really get why people were so surprised.”

“People keep clicking it, so people are going to keep writing about it, talking about it, because it keeps bringing hits to their site, it really has nothing to do with me and what I did, people just like to rile each other up, it’s crazy.

“I think it takes a lot of courage to go out and do what I did. But all the people who like to talk about it, they’re sitting behind their computers anonymously saying what they want to say, and I obviously say and do what I fell in front of everybody, so I kind of expect the same respect.

“If you’re about to say something about me, say it to my face or say it with your name on it, don’t say it behind my back or sit behind your computer.”

“I like it when people say, ‘how are they not talking about these real world issues right now and Miley’s just around twerking?’ “I’m like, ‘What do you want me to do?! You’re the one clicking the damn page. Go read the news about real s**t in the world, don’t keep clicking on my page – you’re the one who’s making it keep coming back and the reason why people won’t quit talking about it!’ “I already did it and I’ve got bigger and naughtier things to be thinking about… My mind’s a fun place to be.”

Uh… I don’t even know where to start with all of this. First of all, I get what she means that we’re the ones clicking on it. Of course we are. Celebrity news is a big business and people love to hate, so people are going to read it (even if only to infuriate themselves.

However, then she starts trying to act all tough, talking about “say it to my face” and all this shit. Girl, just ‘cos you did a song with French Montana (who lost SO MUCH CREDIBILITY for doing it, not that he had much in the first place) does NOT make you a thug. Shut up and sit down.

Finally, you’ve got “bigger and naughtier things” to think about? Oh, Miley, you’re so EDGY! If only we could compete with your ~crazy~ behaviour. Fuck off, man. Just because you pop molly and found some guy to deliver an oz of weed to you in every city does not make you some bad-ass. Go away. And please never use the word “dope” again.

  • Hopefully we’ll read about her blowing all her money (or losing it in her third divorce) within the next 10 years when she’s a has-been.

  • I must be the only person who wasn’t shocked by ANYTHING she did at the VMA’s. The performance was bad, but nothing worthy of all this attention. Stupid rich brat going through her slut faze is not shocking!

  • We must be able to see that all of this does not come from Miley Cyrus’ mind alone. It’s orchestrated by her co-workers, agents and producers – people who know this kind of thing is marketable. That they may be incidentally hurting society by promoting drug use, the erotization of children and the glorification of crime and gangsterism, is not of their concern.

    • she, like everyone else on her team, was likely thinking “how do i get people to pay attention to me/her”…like we all don’t know? pretending it’s no big deal like “why do people care so much?!?” is 787675546465898664 times more annoying than air humping for attention

  • “I think it takes a lot of courage to go out and do what I did.”
