Paula Deen Posts Apology Video, Removes It, Flakes On The Today Show, Is Fired By Food Network

Paula Deen must have realized (or was told) that her apology for her racist statements really sucked, so she made an apology video, posted it in YouTube…and then made it “private”, essentially taking the video down. Regardless of her attempts, The Food Network fired her.

Deen got a little Bynes-y and posted 2 more videos. According to the New York Times, in her apology video take 2, “she appeared more composed”. She also posted a video apologizing to Matt Lauer for flaking out on her Today show appearance set for this morning. Here’s what the NY Times is saying about the Today situation:

In a third video on YouTube, Ms. Deen apologized to Matt Lauer, the host of “Today,” for skipping a scheduled exclusive interview earlier in the day.She had agreed to the interview, extensively promoted by NBC News, to address the uproar generated by her deposition.

Clearly upset by her absence, Mr. Lauer told viewers that Ms Deen had spoken with him on Thursday, agreed to an “open and candid” discussion, flown to New York City — but in the morning, had her representatives cancel, citing exhaustion. “We just found out she’s a no-show,” he wrote on Twitter. “Hoping to get more info on the Paula Deen situation soon. Very confusing.”

After she apologized online to Mr. Lauer, a “Today” spokeswoman said the program was working to reschedule the interview.

Are you telling me that Paula Deen took the easy and cowardly way of disappearing instead of taking responsibility for her actions? That is so unlike her. How weird.

As for her apologies, here are some select quotes from both videos:

I want to apologize to everybody for the wrong that I’ve done. I want to learn and grow from this. Inappropriate and hurtful language is totally, totally unacceptable.

[…]

Your color of your skin, your religion, your sexual preference does not matter. I was wrong, yes, I’ve worked hard, and I have made mistakes but that is no excuse and I offer my sincere apology to those that I have hurt, and I hope that you forgive me because this comes from the deepest part of my heart.

That is a much, much better apology than the statement her camp released yesterday, but it’s still too late, at least for The Food Network. They opted not to renew her contract in June. Anthony Bourdain is probably so psyched about all of this.

  • The butter pictured represents the amount of butter that went into her recipes hosting the show for just one month. You should see the residual butter ghost representing a year.

    • William, politically correct sausage, is it ok for black men to call themselves “niggers” but when a person of other race calls them so its racist? Well why dont u go back to Africa where u actually belong? This woman has done nothing wrong and her public humiliation shows just how low this “politically correct” society has gone. Racism now is a thought crime. So lame…. Enjoy the darkening of America, from all points of view. Ure gonna reap just wha u sowed

      • Omg! You are so right! I have seen the error of my ways! *leaves for Africa* Not. Anyway. She should have known better. Even if she does think that way or say things like that it’s her problem. She had a high profile career and unfortunatley for her living in America there are rules against racism in the work force. She has had guests of all walks of life on her show and managed not to offend them, but just one slip up and she could have had a lawsuit for her and her network. While she may have said this outside of her work having a high profile career worked against her. It came back to her, bit her in the butt and she was fired. Oh, unless you were talking about my personal view. In that case I’ll carry on having my own opinion; just like you.

  • OK, I am Southern, born and raised in Alabama my whole life. Paula Deen is white trash, pure and simple. Those of us who have some semblance of class do not use that language. If you think otherwise, come on down for a visit. Paula Deen is a disgrace.

  • William…you are not behaving any better than she. To call her “white trash” is also a racist comment.

    • Hey, brittany, how dare u? Dont u know that only Whites are racist and evil and Blacks and other races are so good and innocent and angelic? Whites are to blame for all, darling…. I was being sarcastic, u bet….

  • Racism is alive and well among EVERYONE. That includes African Americans. This political correctness only seems to work one way. Hypocrisy is also alive and well.

  • About time someone is held responsible for their actions ! You act like an idiot you pay the price ! I hope she never works another day in her life !

    • Those are my feeling towards Chris Brown and Charlie Sheen but alas they just keep getting rewarded for bad behavior.
