This Can’t Be True: Suri Cruise Signed A Deal To Design Her Own Clothing Line?

Suri Cruise is a 7 year-old girl with famous parents (Katie and Tom, in case you’ve been living in a gorgeous cave) who probably doesn’t even dress herself and yet reportedly signed around a $2 million deal to design her own clothing line.

This can’t be true because if this is true…do I even have to explain why this would be absurd? I’m not.

From The Sun via The Telegraph:

According to tabloid The Sun, the seven-year-old daughter of Hollywood actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes will put her name to a fashion line called ‘Suri’.

The fashion-loving youngster, who was reported to have amassed a £100,000 shoe collection by the time she was five, will be paid £1.5million for the collection aimed at young girls.

A department store in New York, where Suri resides with her mother, will stock the line initially. If it is successful, it will be rolled out across stores in North America.

A source said of Suri: “This is a really nice hobby for her, its certainly not going to take over her life. Most girls dream of being able to make their own clothes, this just means her drawings will now become a reality.”

Apparently, the initial idea was for Suri to have her own blog but the concept evolved.

SHE’S 7 YEARS-OLD, SHE DOESN’T NEED A HOBBY. HER HOBBY IS BEING 7 YEARS-OLD.

I cannot even. Everything about that quote is ridiculous, as is this entire thing. Which is why her parents’ rep says it’s false. From The NY Daily News:

Alas for fashion-forward second-graders everywhere, Suri Cruise is not launching her own clothing line. At least not yet.

A spokesperson for Cruise, the daughter of actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, told the Daily News that report from The Sun claiming that Suri had inked a $2.3 million deal to create a fashion label ‘isn’t true.’

At one points there were claims she was writing a children’s book. What the hell, everyone.

I was going to include some photos of Miss Suri’s ~~fashion forward style~~ but as I was collecting the photos I realized, this is weird.

  • Great work! It’s FAKE!!?!! Of course it is. You’re right. It makes no sense. I hate it when parents do that…..like they hire professional artists and pay to have a story the kid wrote published – and then they tell everyone that their child was an author by the age of 9 (thanks to Mommy/Daddy’s over the top ambition and big bucks to bankroll the idea – as well as steer the project. Then, they act as if their child is a genius.

The children are not geniuses. They simply have ambitious and competitive parents. I hope those parents put aside some of the money for psychotherapy for their kids in the future. Perhaps they may want to read Alice Miller’s “Drama of The Gifted Child”. :)
