Lana Del Rey Covers Another Song. It’s Okay.

lana del rey new music video summer wine boyfriend

Lana Del Rey has another music video out. It’s a cover of Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood’s “Summer Wine.” Recently she did a cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Chelsea Hotel No. 2” that I love and I think most you hated. That’s okay.

The video is sure to inspire lots of eye rolling anger, as the entire thing looks like it was filmed with a broken Super 8 camera and produced by a team of the finest hipsters. Taking on the Lee Hazelwood role is her real-life boyfriend (fiance?) Barrie-James O’Neill of the “Scottish alternative folk band” Kassidy.

To be honest, if you don’t like Lana Del Rey, this is not the song or video that’s going to change your mind. Best avoid it. Even I’m a little “ugh.”

She’s also contributing to The Great Gatsby film soundtrack. So get ready for a “summer” of Lana.

  • I don’t know if it was the coloring of the video or the way the song sounded or both, but it creeped me out. Made me think of Charles Manson.

  • I checked YouTube to see the original 1967 version and Lana pretty much did exactly the same everything. I hadn’t heard the original so it was new to me. Watching the video and hearing the style of the song really was a throwback to the late 60’s…the deep vocals side not the psychedelic side. Lana nailed it. My older sister listened to Nancy Sinatra, Bobby Gentry & other female artists of the period. I was only in grade school but I really got a nostalgic vibe from Lana’s song….being young, seeing a cute guy, falling in love (for the day), getting him drunk, sleeping with this stranger and then robbing him…..oh those carefree days!!!! Wow…..maybe it IS sortof Mansonesque!!!

**P.S. I actually liked Lana here. Maybe because I could concentrate on her voice and not her face. And she smiled often which was helpful. I know you like her but can we at least agree that she has a “unique” look? **
