Taylor Swift Admits She Wrote ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ About Harry Styles

This story isn’t so much a surprise as it is an LOL moment, since Taylor Swift has finally admitted that she wrote her hit single ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ about none other than One Direction singer and ex-boyfriend Harry Styles.

From The Sunday Times (via DigitalSpy)

“You’re balancing the analytical side of your brain, which is telling you where to go and how to go there, with the other side of your brain, which is saying, ‘Feel everything you’re singing, and show it on your face. Feel everything exactly as you felt it when you wrote the song’,” Swift told The Sunday Times magazine.

Asked how she felt knowing Styles was watching the performance [at the 2013 BRIT awards] in the audience, she replied: “Well, it’s not hard to access that emotion when the person the song is directed at is standing by the side of the stage watching.”

Oh, snap! The one thing about this that doesn’t make sense, though, is the timeline. Didn’t Taylor and Harry start dating well after the Red album, which ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ appears on, was released? How could it have been about him when she wrote it ages before they even met/got together?

Whatever, we’ll just go with it.

  • Yeah they started “dating” after red cam out. It was all planned, she was his beard. The song was probably written about how she thinks their relationship would of been if he didn’t already have a boyfriend.

  • They dated for I think 12 minutes before the album and then got back together for another 53 minutes after it got released.

  • I don’t know, I kind of feel like her quote doesn’t necessarily mean the song was WRITTEN about him. It was probably written for John Mayer or someone else from around that time. However, the lyrics may still hold true for Harry, hence why she currently “directs” it at him. Does that even make sense? I don’t know.

  • She shouldn’t have even directed it to him since their “relationship” was all for PR though. It probably was written about John Mayer since he’s the last straight guy she actually “dated”

  • I should of been the co writer i would say(I knew you were gay with your band you been poked places I’ve never been-you were lying on the floor going oh oh oh bent double double double when that boy had it up your rearend)

  • It may have been one of those things where you start dating someone and ignore all of the red flags and warnings going on in the back of your head that are saying, “This relationship is going to be an emotional gore fest”…except Taylor’s version of ‘back of your head’ involves more lighting, sound checks, making lots and lots of money and looking awesome doing it whether we like it or not.
