Mindy McCready Dead of Apparent Suicide, Aged 37

Mindy McCready‘s life story reads like the worst Shakespearian tragedy imaginable, full of drug and alcohol abuse, repeated imprisonment and trouble with the law, failed rehab attempts, mental health issues… I could go on and on. The incredibly talented country star went down a rocky road over the past decade which culminated in the worst possible news: Mindy was found dead in her Arkansas home on Sunday night of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. She also shot her pet dog.

From E Online:

It’s been a difficult month for Mindy McCready, and unfortunately, E! News has learned that the country singer’s life has come to end far too soon. A source close to the 37-year-old tells us her body was found in Heber Springs, Ark.

A source tells E! News that Mindy’s father, Tim McCready had been staying with her until this morning when he returned to Florida. When her father left, “she was in good spirits and seemed to be fine,” our source tells us.

Neighbors heard gunshots at her house and called the police. “She shot herself and the dog,” our source says.+

Just a little over a month ago, McCready’s boyfriend, David Wilson, died at the age of 34 with no cause of death or details surrounding his passing being revealed, however continues to be under investigation.

Shortly afterward, the star’s life began going on a downward spiral.

After denying any involvement with Wilson’s death, McCready’s two children, Zander, 6, and Zayne, 9-months-old, were taken from the singer’s Heber Springs, Ark., home by authorities. “Mindy needs to get help and we all care and love her and we want her to get the right help so she can move on. She is in a bad state right now, depressed and unhappy. It is not good,” a source told E! News when the children were removed.

That was the point when McCready was ordered to enter an in-patient facility for treatment. “Since boyfriend (David Wilson) shot himself she has been in bed for 3 wks,” her father said in court documents. “Sleeps all day. Drinks all night and is taking Rx drugs. Not bathing or even helping take care of her 2 children.”

In agreeing to McCready’s “involuntary admission” to an appropriate facility, the judge wrote that “there is cause to find there is clear and convincing evidence that Respondent is in imminent danger of harm to herself or others, suicidal or gravely disabled.”

However, just a day after being ordered by a judge to enter a treatment facility for a mental-health and alcohol-abuse evaluation, the troubled celeb was released to undergo outpatient treatment instead.

It’s really a shame to see people with mental health issues struggling and unable to get the help they need. Then again, it’s a difficult situation as people have to want to be helped in order to even have a chance in changing their lives. Either way, we hope Mindy’s family – especially her two young children – are able to find peace in such a terrible situation.

  • This is such a sad story :( why didn’t someone help her if not for her but for her kids :( why didn’t they keep her in the hospital, our family stay and made sure she was helped for more then a week !!! My heart breaks for her kids !!!! And the poor dog !!!!! The dog didn’t do anything wrong :( it just shows how sick she really was :( R.I.P. now everyone will cry and say what they should have done !!!! Very very sad !!!

  • The aftermath of a suicide is brutal. I worked with a woman who used to carry around a large framed picture of her mother who had committed suicide, showing it to people like she was asking the general public to explain why her mother had died. Another girl I knew had a sister who had killed herself and she plan out and mime all the ways she could kill herself like she was trying to figure out what was going on in her sister’s head. I could go on and on with examples, but when it comes down to it, what these kids need is someone who will listen when they want to talk about their mother, and who will be honest without being judgemental about her issues, someone who will talk about her good points as well as her failings, otherwise a few years from now I’m afraid we will be seeing stories about these kids on this site and their struggles with substance abuse and sucide attempts as they try and understand their mother’s point of view from the inside out.

    • Very true bonns, suicide is about the most selfish thing a person could do to a family. Addiction and mental health issues aside, I don’t think there’s a level of hell hot enough for her… Plus the dog? Burn bitch, burn!

  • Her dog was most likely her beloved companion . Thank god her children were removed from her care, otherwise they would also have been shot and killed. Sad, sad story.. R.I.P.

  • Suicide is awful and hurts those around you but you know what, people shouldn’t have to live if they don’t want to.
My sympathy ends when I read that somebody took another life with them. You want to kill yourself? Go nuts. You want to kill your fucking DOG first? Go to hell.

    • I was so upset about the poor dog :( I think she was really disturbed and didn’t want to get help ! For god sake if having children don’t make you straight up nothing will so eventually she was gonna end up taking her own life but theirs no reason for killing that poor poor dog :(

    • BINGO. I had the exact same reaction. I was like, “Oh, that really sucks,” when I first heard, but when I found out she killed her dog? Yeah, no. Go fuck yourself, lady. She’d probably have taken any other person in the house with her, as well. That’s seriously mental. How this woman was ever given the OK for outpatient care is beyond me.

  • Well, suicides often feel as if the world has deserted them; as if the world is a dark and painful place.

They often tend to take children / pets / loved ones along with them. They feel the pain of their own life is so bad they wouldn’t wish it on anyone else.

The application of mental care is used with caution as it has already been applied as a tool of oppression. (Soviet Union among others)

They took her kids away, which is normal for depressives. A dog normally stifles depression, so a dog should’ve been a help.

She’d apparently been taking drugs (whichever those were) and drinking (a depressant). Those would’ve exacerbated depression and perhaps psychosis.

I also argue that she had a number of risk factors for PPD. That, most certainly, would’ve added to her depression.

So, in looking at her situation, she had a ton of weight on her. It’s a sad situation, but it happens sometimes.

It sucks, to us, that she shot the dog. However, to her distorted thinking it was mercy. I wouldn’t judge her too harshly for it.

  • That’s very sad…i saw a story about her a few weeks ago, stating that she was in bad shape but there was hope for her. Too bad it didn’t work out for her…i hope her two little children are in good hands.

  • It was a shame, people are ignorant to the pain and extreme desperation of mental illness to this degree. Many think that suicide is a selfish act to punish others albeit it goes deeper than just that….attempted is a cry of magnified self pity but successful commitment is much different I feel.
Have to agree that the dog shooting was sad but leaving the dog to deal with it would perhaps been gruesome as well if it was not discovered for a few days. this was a human being folks that saw no relief but the course she opted.
The cocksucker roger the rocket tapping a 15 year old probably did escalate her demise as she missed out on her childhood as do several young stars experience. We can mention all the young stars that have had mirrored experiences emotionally.
It was a shame especially for her children, she might have them hoping it would heal her emotionally. In the end she was still a teenager emotionally.
