Drew Barrymore Doesn’t Want Her Daughter to Be Famous

Drew Barrymore has been a celebrity for yonks – can you believe E.T. was made in 1982, 30 years ago??? – and it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. There was drug addiction and promiscuity and all kinds of debauchery, and it was unclear whether she would ever really get her life together. Well, spoiler alert: SHE TOTALLY HAS. After marrying longtime boyfriend Will Koppelman, the couple welcomed a baby girl, Olive, late last year.

Parenthood changes a lot of people – most people, really – and it’s certainly opened Drew’s eyes to the reality of celebrity life and her desire to keep Olive as far away from it as possible.

From Harper’s Bazaar:

“I know she didn’t sign up for that,” she says about Olive’s being born into the glare of attention that comes with her mother’s 30-plus years of fame—thanks in part to Barrymore’s legendary acting lineage and her own star turn at the tender age of six in E.T. “I had such an exposed childhood,” she says. “I appreciate my journey, but I don’t want that for my kid. Not any of it. It has nothing to do with whether I liked my childhood. I really did. But as a parent, that isn’t the childhood that I’d provide.”

Good thinking, Drew.

  • If for some strange reason my kid gets famous (doubtful after hearing him sing and dance, I’m afraid), I’m going to make it mandatory in his trailers that everywhere he goes there there is to be lifesize pictures of before and after of Jael from America’s Next Top Model; photos of Elvis dead on the toliet and pictures of Keith Moon choking on his own vomit, etc… all over his dressing rooms until he emancipates himself from my crazy momager ass.

  • why is she then getting constantly papped with the kid and had her family photos in People??
    she just wants the attention…

  • She has come so far and she should be really proud ! She is proff that these starlet fame whores can get their lives together if they want !!!!! I think she is gonna be a wonderful protective mother and I wish her whole family much happiness :)
