I think what Pique meant, Chaz, when she said Americans are shallow is because American friendliness is so out of place in Europe it comes across as insincere and shallow. We keep our distances and are friendly only when we actually mean it. Most Americans I’ve met treated me like their BFF after 15 minutes and that is so weird to me. And the very white teeth. That always really weirded me out too.

Pique, most Americans are not shallow, people need to stop the “generalizations.” lmao, its like when I try to explain European thought to rednecks they have their own “generalizations” too. Also, the US leads the world in charitable contributions. Some people I’m not patriotic in what my country is, maybe not. But I’m damn patriotic in what my country has the promise to be!

I’m sure being in the EU isn’t making it any easier. Lovely concept, a nightmare in reality. I had the misfortune of being in France when Reagan said that he “could imagine a limited nuclear conflict in western Europe.” let’s just say that I, as a US citizen, wasn’t very well received! My immediate lineage is 2nd generation american, I’ve many shirttail relatives who came to this country as Indentured servants. They came for the “promise of opportunity.”
