Is Miley Cyrus an Irresponsible Pet Owner?

From Tish Cyrus’s super fancy personal blog:

…As for Miley, its been a really tough week. As you all know her beloved baby girl Lila passed away. Everyone has been so precious and so supportive of her and I love you all so much for that. Miley loved Lila more than anyone can imagine. I know some people were saying its JUST a dog, but to Miley she was so much more. In Miley’s life, as you can imagine, its hard to let many people into your tight circle of family and friends. Anytime, that Miley is sad or having a hard day, Lila was her angel. The one that always loved her unconditionally no matter what was going on in her life at that time. She would always just curl up in bed with Lila for a few hours and then everything would always feel better! She always made me feel better too. I gave her the nickname Lila Sue Pumpernickel! lol I have no idea where that come from, but it stuck!

The way that Lila was taken from her was beyond terrible. Sometimes things happen that we just cant understand. Miley still isn’t ready to talk about it, but I thought you guys should know what happened.

For some unknown reason, Ziggy…….. grabbed Lila. Not really sure if she was playing or what? She grabbed her in just the wrong spot and Lila didn’t survive…………. Please understand that Miley isn’t ready to talk about this and we dont think Ziggy is a mean dog…….. We took Ziggy to SPOT dog rescue and they found her a new home with no other pets or children just in case it wasn’t a fluke. So not only did Miley lose Lila, she feels she lost Ziggy as well.

So, OK. I have a story for you guys. Once there was this girl I knew who had three dogs and two cats, among other animals. And something similar happened, where one of the larger dogs attacked the smaller dog and beat it up pretty good. The little dog had to go to the vet and get stitches and anti-inflammatory medications and everything, and then a few months later, one of the bigger (more “aggressive-breed”) dogs, went and attacked the small dog again. No one could figure out why, as the dogs had shared a house for their entire lives so far, but some were willing to venture a guess at jealousy over their master. See, the small dog could easily climb into bed with its master, whereas the two larger dogs could not. Jealousy? Maybe. Too many damn animals in the house? F-cking definitely. Well, after the little doggie had its ear stitched back on for the second time, one of the larger two dogs decided that it was high time to do the little doggie in, and the larger breed dog took a big old chomp out of little dog. Little dog’s major internal organs were all perforated, and little dog died a slow, uncomfortable death in the vet’s office while the doctor tried to save him.

You know, I’m not saying that I don’t feel bad for Miley, because I do—oh my gosh, I do. Ultimately, it’s not like she was the one who forced her little dog into the mouth of her bigger dog. But you know what? When you have *that many* animals, you run the risk of something like this happening, and how can you not be aware of it? Or take precautions to not have that happen like, I don’t know, not have so many damn dogs? I’m not saying that Miley‘s an irresponsible pet owner, but shit like this happens and the reality of the situation is that it happens more often than people want to admit.

Honestly, where does the fault really lie?

  • I don’t think it’s somehow Miley’s fault for having so many animals and not “taking precautions.” Things like this happen so suddenly and so randomly that there’s literally no way you could possibly foresee it. Some dogs live together their whole lives and never have an issue with each other. Other dogs that have lived together their whole lives in a friendly way will suddenly get into a fight for no apparent reason. *Something* will set them off, and you don’t know what it is. If there was no history of such behavior in her dogs before, how could she be aware of it? It reminds me of a fairly recent news story in which a family dog that had been perfectly well-behaved and friendly and cuddly for years suddenly killed the family’s new baby. That was just one dog (so you can’t blame “having too many animals”), and there was no way for the parents to know it would happen, because nothing in the dog’s previous behavior suggested it.

    • I agree wholly with what you said, but don’t you think in some cases (maybe not necessarily this case) that too many animals could contribute to the reason behind the attack?

      • I really don’t think “too many animals” has anything to do with it. You could just have two animals that have a problem with each other, or you could have ten animals that don’t. I just don’t see any correlation.

    • As for the story of that girl you know, *she* should have known that something like that would happen, because the small dog had already been attacked a couple of times. THAT’s being irresponsible.

  • It was mentioned in another article that when Miley had a bad day, she’d crawl in bed with Lila for hours until she felt better. Lila was her “feel better” bed buddy dog. You KNOW Ziggy wouldn’t be allowed to do that.

My boyfriend’s dog is miffed because only the CAT is allowed in bed and the cat is allowed out by herself without a leash.

It’s a situation. Ziggy’s jaw structure makes it so that if he just bit without much pressure at all – it would be too much pressure for a little doggie like Lila.

Dogs are not 100% predictable. I wouldn’t leave dogs with a baby – unattended nor would I leave a Pittbull or a Bull dog with a 3-4 lb. dog – unattended. But, I’d NEVER want to own a pack of dogs. I don’t have 3 hours a day to walk, feed, play and train dogs and I don’t have the money to hire someone to take care of them either! I sure don’t want to clean my house daily!

  • I really don’t like Miley..at all, but I can’t blame her for this. She’s very immature and didn’t realize that in a large group of dogs this can happen. She obviously has a big dog heart and can be commended for adoption as aposed to purchase. Hopefully a lesson was learned. Now, if she can be taught to quit grabbing her junk on stage..we’ll talk.

  • I wonder what kind of dog Ziggy was? Sometimes bigger dogs don’t understand they can’t play with smaller ones they same way they’d play with ones their own size and shit happens. That said, I think it’s pretty damn naive of her to not have realised having SO MANY dogs could result in this kind of problem. Dogs need so much time and training and you can’t just fill a house with them and think everything is going to be fine.

I’m glad she didn’t get Ziggy put down though, which I think would be the reaction of a lot of people.

  • i do think having too many animals that are not the same or similar breed can be problematic, honestly she should have castrated the bigger dog, thats what i did and know my dog is such a teddy bear

    • Do we know the dog wasn’t neutered? She has been adopting these dogs, and most shelters/adoption agencies these days automatically neuter/spay the animals for you.

      • i dont know that dog looks like the type you buy but whatever if u prefer a dog too much jealousy is goin to happen so in a way it is her fault

  • I do find it odd that people are always so eager to put down people for the way they care for and raise their pets. If you allow your dog or cat to produce offspring.. Holy Shit! You’d think you were Hitler! And if someone has more than one or two pets, than you’re considered a hoarder, or it’s your own fault when something happens between the pets. People seem to forget that a lot of people see their pets as children. And not, like, someone can’t have a child so they develop a mental disorder and start collecting pets to fill a whole. No, I’m talking about, people (like myself) straight up feel the same responsibility and love towards and animal as they do a human child.

I know this will sound outrageously stupid to some people, but these really are similar topics. What is the difference between a person having four dogs, and a person having four children? Apparently, people who have four dogs are somehow responsible for what happens to their pets if they don’t get along, or if there are behavior issues, because they shouldn’t have so many animals. But, if a person has four children, and one of them has many bad behaviors toward a sibling, it’s because something is wrong with the child? It’s pretty much the same damn thing.

Be thankful Miley is a responsible enough person to care for that many animals. You definitely can’t say the same for most individuals her age. What happened is absolutely awful! I have four of my own dogs, all large. I have the utmost respect and sympathy for her because of her situation. Honestly, when you see animals the way her and I do, they really are your children. Have respect for someone that’s going through something so traumatic.

    • Sorry, most of the time when a child has behavioral problems, it usually has a lot to do with bad, indifferent, or ignorant parenting.

  • WTF is wrong with you? I get it, you write for a gossip blog but gossip/snark/whatever is one thing, insinuating that it is this poor kids fault that her dog died is quite another. Have you got a heart in there someone? Fuck Sarah go ask someone to give you a hug, I think you need one.

    • Never said that she was responsible. Said that too many animals – animals that are animals and that act like animals – can sometimes cause a problem that should be considered before it becomes a problem.

  • The fact is we don’t know how dogs think, all we do know is that their is a heirarchy, with Alphas etc. It could well be that the top dog in the pack saw this little twerp who was probably way down the pecking order, as having priveleges beyond their ranking & decided to take her down. It would all make sense to the top dog involved. I once saw this thing on tv about these monkeys who lived somewhere with a lot of snow, but there were these thermal pools, and only the high-ranking female and her offspring were allowed luxuriate in these while the ‘peasant’ monkeys were literally freezing their paws off six inches away

  • When I was in college (UCB), one day a dog started following me around and waiting for me outside every class. Turns out she was after the chicken salad in my backpack. I ended up taking her home. She was a wolf mix and I named her Heike.

Fast forward about 15 years. She got pneumonia twice in one winter, and never quite regained her energy. She spent a lot of time in the house, but I still put her out in the garage when we left for awhile. One summer afternoon she was laying in the hallway and when I told her she had to go to the garage she didn’t get up. I took her by the collar and she SNAPPED at me.

My mom was visiting at the time, and the incident really freaked her out, especially since my son was 3yo at the time. It’s not something I would have made a big deal of since living with her had always meant having my dominance challenged (not that she had ever snapped at me before). But my mom finally made me see that Heike had to go. I tried and tried to figure out how to make things work (could she be trained? probably not. And even if she had been, could I have ever felt like my son was safe near her? No.). I had to take her to the vet and have her put to sleep. Even the vet felt it was the best choice. But I still feel terrible about it ten years later.

I have always thought Miley was kind of a dipshit, but I’ve never doubted her true love for dogs. I really feel for what she went through.

    • That’s a very sad story :~(
It brought me back to when I was in hospital having my first child, one of my beloved dogs got out and bit a child on the street. Before I came home from hospital my lovely black lab Fluke had been put to sleep, the police had been involved and with him biting a child, and me bringing home a new baby, it was out of my hands. I never got to say goodbye but I will never forget him, so I know how you feel.

  • Miley probably mistreated her pet possum back when she was with kinfolk in the hills of the grande old south.

  • Women are cheating all over the place, nowadays! (Leann Rimes/Cibrian, Coco/IceT, Kristen Stewart, Suzy Favor Hamilton the Olympian & Vegas call girl, Rita Ora/Rob Kardashian, Petraeus women).

My latest book, “I Steal Wives: A serial adulterer reveals the REAL reasons more and more ‘happily married’ women are cheating” is a powerful look at this EXPLOSIVE topic of female infidelity. And the REAL reasons aren’t the typical blather you hear on talk-TV or read in the SECOND-HAND information of some psychologist’s self-help book. It’s now in the top 1% of books selling on Amazon!

The book is the FIRST BOOK EVER WRITTEN on female infidelity from the FIRST-HAND, insider experience of a serial adulterer, who cheated with the wives/girlfriends of over 25 married men (and a few women), and who also happens to be a therapist (never cheated with clients)! “I Steal Wives” is a salacious, self-deprecating, at times funny, and penetratingly insightful look into what is now the very cutting-edge of relationships.

It’s the relationship version of “How to Secure Your House, as told by a professional burglar!” This is no joke, the raw truths of “I Steal Wives” will forever change how you do relationships and understand women, especially if you are one!

Check it out now at Amazon and Barnes and Noble!! It’s selling FAST!

  • I think the bottom line here is that even though Miley clearly loves dogs, she doesn’t know much about them at all. She gets a new dog every few months (how many in 2012 alone?) that means she gets a new pet before the other even has a chance to settle in and Miley doesn’t have the chance to learn about the dog’s behavior and habits. Mistakes like that are what cause accidents like the one you see here. Additionally, she adopts very young dogs for the most part and all of her current dogs are 2 years or less. This likely means that non of her dogs are fully matured and generally you see problems with dogs “suddenly” becoming more dominant or aggressive with one another when they reach maturity. Much like young teens becoming more hostile when they hit puberty, dogs do the same thing and it isn’t until they are 2-3 (and for some breeds it takes longer) that the dog is mature. She’ll probably continue to see problems like this until she stops being so impulsive and takes the time to really connect with her dogs and evaluate if adding another pet is good for the whole “family” instead of just something that will make her feel good in the short run.
