Is Angus T. Jones Being Replaced by Miley Cyrus?

To quote a viral McDonald’s commercial of my youth, “Hey, it could happen.”

Word on the street is that Miley Cyrus, former guest star on ‘Two and a Half Men’, is being looked at by the show’s executives as a permanent replacement for Angus T. Jones. The other word on the street is that Angus T. Jones is being forced out of the show because he’s ungrateful, and weird, and not all that great for publicity. Go figure.

A production source told Celebuzz, “There are talks to replace Angus and the perfect person would be Miley Cyrus. The episodes that she appeared on brought in the highest ratings of the season. One possibility is that she could easily be written into the show to go to college.”

Well, duh, then. That kind of sounds like a no-brainer. I mean, she was already on the show, so it’s apparent how well-received she’d be, and it’s not like she’s got anything else going on at the moment career-wise anyway, which means it’d be a perfect fit, right? Not so fast—don’t forget, Angus issued that half-assed apology the other day, and be it hell or high water, nothing could tear Angus from his religious-based convictions (unless it had a price tag of $350k per episode or greater), so maybe Angus isn’t all that keen on leaving the show that made him who he is (professionally, of course; we won’t have any blasphemy up in here today, heck no). If sources are telling the truth, though, he might not have a choice otherwise.

What do you guys think about Miley as a potential candidate for ‘Two and a Half Men’? What the hell would they call the show then?

  • Someone called Rachel Maddow, “an angry young man” last week. Miley could pass for that label too! LOL.

  • Even though I’ve only seen the show a couple of times, I kinda love the idea of replacing Angus T. Jones with Miley Cyrus, but I really and truly hate the idea that they’d continue to call it ‘Two and a Half Men’. Does one woman equal half a man, by that logic? They just can’t.

    • What other way could you possibly interpret a show about 2 men and 1 woman titled, ‘Two and a Half Men’? This isn’t a deep thought that I sat here pondering while burning my bra, it’s just instantaneously obviously insulting.

  • And hundreds of overly long shots lingering on her barely legal arse/boobs/legs + jokes about ~~women~~. Eh.

  • Cindy is right. But Chuck Lorre is unfortunately capable of that kind of supposedly good-natured tongue-in-cheek insult. And it’s pathetic that women will laugh along as if being called half a man is no big woop.

  • I don’t even like this show, and even I know that the title was meant to be open to interpretation. Yes, there is the most literal level of meaning, which is the only meaning that seems possible when you have never seen the show: Angus’s character is the “1/2.” However, due to the fact that both of the adult male characters are incredibly immature, it is obvious that the writers never intended for the title to be making a definite comment on any one of the characters. The viewer must decide who s/he thinks is the “half man.” The title would continue to work on two levels, the literal one that is not meant to be taken all that seriously and the figurative one that implicitly asks viewers to pass judgment on who the characters are below the surface. The addition of Miley would introduce the very real possibility that young Miley is more of a “man” than the two adult males.

    • Nice try Mike but at the end of the day, a woman is neither a full man nor is she half a man. Jus’ sayin’.

      • I’m not trying to do anything because, to be quite honest, I would be happier if this show had never existed. However, I do sometimes put forth the effort to think in a way that is not completely literal. You should try it sometime.

  • While I would completely agree with the sexism of considering Miley/women a “half man” under regular circumstances, we should all remember that this show was named YEARS ago before considering replacing the “half man” (child) with a woman. Adding Miley and removing Angus is NOT the same thing as if the show had casted her from the beginning with the name “Two and a Half Men”. It’s just not. The show was already named that and has been for years. I for one don’t think the name should be changed, but for more marketing/word of mouth reasons. Changing the name AND replacing a character would be setting Miley up for failure because the built-in audience would not be as loyal.

  • Holy God. If we want to advance the cause of women, wouldn’t it be better to tackle things like equal pay, access to health care or if you want to get really dramatic, female genital mutilation? People are arguing whether IF they don’t change the title of some stupid TV comedy and IF Miley Cyrus starts appearing on it it MIGHT SEEM like women are being insulted? If you must even waste brain cells on it, look at it this way – as cmc said, she isn’t one of the original characters. She wasn’t on the show when they named it. So the title wouldn’t even be referring to her. the “half” would still refer to Angus’ character, his character would just not be on the show anymore. Done. I mean, seriously, Angus is an adult now, and they didn’t change it to “Three Men.” Sheesh.

    • Those cause are very important indeed, but diminishing the role that media and pop culture play in our perceptions of gender roles is myopic. Like on The Big Bang Theory, when Amy Farrah Fowler (a woman!) asks Penny whether she considers herself a slut and Penny agrees. It’s a small example, but it just comes to perpetuate the same slut shaming that accompanies women everywhere, and coming from two female characters (one of which, by the way, is the only main character on the show whose surname hasn’t been disclosed). It’s all intertwined, and we need to have these discussions about sexism in media.

      • Hey, yeah! That’s so weird. And when Penny’s Dad was on the show, he was just called Wyatt.
        That’s twisted.
