Quotables: Lady Gaga Talks Weight Gain

“I love eating pasta and pizza. I’m a New York Italian girl. That’s why I have been staying out of New York. My father opened a restaurant. It’s so amazing. It’s so freaking delicious, but I’m telling you I gain five pounds every time I go in there. So my dad wants me to eat at the restaurant, and I’m, like, I’ve got to go where I can drink green juice. I really don’t feel bad about it, not even for a second. I have to be on such a strict diet constantly. It’s hard because it’s a quite vigorous show, so I tend to bulk up, get muscular, and I really don’t like that. So I’m trying to find a new balance.”

So. Ahem. To those who say that I Photoshopped the photos of Lady Gaga looking a little heavier set … I guess this, if nothing else, clears it all up. Unless, of course, we’re taking her comments out of context, here, and she’s actually talking about something entirely different than the twenty-five (and not thirty) pound weight gain. Like, I don’t know. Her friendship with Lindsay Lohan or something. She could very well be talking about that, I suppose.

In any case, she looks just fine. And YUM. Splurging on pizza and pasta all the time? That’s right up my alley, guys. And also? This is probably my most favorite thing that Lady Gaga‘s ever done. I know that her whole schtick is, like, “Yeah, born this way, accept me for who I am, I don’t give a flying monkey’s sack about what you think of me,” and this entire thing just emulates all of that. Good to see, girl. Good to see.

  • On Jezebel user Pope Alexander commented:
“So she can challenge expectations of the image of a popstar, just as long as she doesn’t do it while anything less than skinny? Got it.”

    Best. Comment. Ever.

Brings to mind another Gaga comment that I used to even have on my facebook:
“Gaga, as weird and anti-Britney Spears sexy as she is, still exhibits sexiness that appeals to the male gaze. At times, it is positively pornographic. That is Lady Gaga’s patriarchal bargain. Despite bucking traditional rules of femininity with innovative fashion elements, she upholds contemporary standards of beauty and sex appeal. Her method is achieved through the use of palatable distractions: telephones as headwear, shamelessly poisoning ex-lovers, and dancing in flawless skeleton makeup. Give ‘em the old razzle dazzle and they won’t even notice that she’s a skinny white woman gyrating in underwear.”

    • I don’t know, I think it’s all about angles. I knew a girl who was 5’8″ and 110 pounds, tops, who could have a pretty impressive double chin in some photos, depending on how she held her face.

  • Yes, muscular…For some reason everyone seems to think fat means muscular now.
She does not look toned whatsoever, and her back appears to have a roll.
So yes, she is totally “muscular”.
