I know, he looks pretty sickly, right? But that’s just because he’s playing someone who was really sick. See, Matthew McConaughey is working on a movie called The Dallas Buyers Club. The film is set in the 80s, and Matthew’s character is HIV-positive*. And, as you can see, he’s pretty serious about staying true to character.
Matthew has said that he plans on losing 30 pounds for the role by going on a starvation diet, something that would be a “spiritual, mental cleanse,” and I hope he’s already achieved that because I really can’t imagine him looking any thinner. He almost looks too weak to even play on the beach, and without that, what is left of Matthew McConaughey?
*And since we had some feelings about sexually transmitted diseases earlier today, let me inform you real quick that HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus, the virus that causes AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome). You can get HIV through sex, but some people get it through blood transfusions or intravenous drug use, which is how Matthew’s character got it. It is generally more serious than herpes. If you need more information, I’m working on pamphlets.
