Ginny Weasley Was Apparently Engaged (?), But She Isn’t Anymore

Well hell. I didn’t even know girlfriend (who actually goes by, you know, her real name, which is Bonnie Wright) was engaged. To another Harry Potter actor, nonetheless. Bonnie and Jamie Campbell Bower (who played the young Grindelwald in the last two films) were reported to be engaged almost an entire year ago.

From Ace Showbiz:

Slightly more than a year after announcing that they were engaged, Bonnie Wright and Jamie Campbell Bower said they have split and the engagement is off. The couple met on the set of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” in 2010 and he proposed to her after only six months of dating.

Bower has confirmed the separation to Daily Mail, saying he’s “heartbroken” over the split. She has reportedly left the London townhouse they were sharing. “They have split but it is amicable,” a source said.

Interesting tidbit, Bower also plays ‘Caius’ in the Twilight franchise. Which completely surprises me because I thought the actor who portrayed Caius was approximately a hundred years old or something.

What went wrong, though? I don’t know. Maybe it’s the weird way that Bonnie’s mouth moves when she talks and maybe it wasn’t. I’m not going to go ahead and say that’s the reason, because it could have been something else just as equally valid—like how Jamie Campbell Bower looks like a prepubescent little girl, and that made Bonnie feel all shades of weird.

Sorry to hear the news, guys! Better luck next time!

  • Why do people get engaged SO young? I mean, what’s the rush? She’s only turned 22, is it surprising at all that they’d split up? For every engagement of people in their very-early 20s that works, there are hundreds that just don’t. I know a guy who proposed to his girlfriend on prom night last week and I’m pretty much waiting for it to implode. What is the rush in settling down? Jesus, just enjoy your youth.

    • I checked average ages for marriage to see if this was accurate (because I thought it was younger off the top of my head).

Average age in Mexico is 18.4 for females and 23.3 for males. This indicates a 5 year spread for males and females.

In the US, these averages are 26.8 and 25.1. These scores were ~24 and 22 respectively. It fits that males have a greater age as they have traditionally been the providers for the family until the early 70’s.

Since this trend has changed, marriage rates have decreased and average female age has increased. (These are corollaries, not necessarily causative.)

Also, the rate of marriage in the US has plunged by 20% in the last 20 years or so. Currently it is at 0.068% per year.

From the wiki-stumbla, average age in England (I couldn’t find official data) is 28 and 30 respectively, meaning that she did get married fairly early as far as England is concerned.

Although, there are places in the US where the marriage age is very, very low. These are in rural areas where available partners are extremely low. Most of them have known each other since childhood and divorce rates are lower than normal, as a result.

For instance, in Lubbock Texas you would be very hard pressed to find males or females above 18 that aren’t married.

      • I don’t think you can compare Mexico to the US and much less the UK for obvious reasons. I’m talking about getting engaged anyway, not actually going through with the wedding because as I said, they’re too young. But hey, impressive research skills there.

  • I never ‘got’ her as Ginny weasley. She apparently is hot stuff though, good for her.

*post above me is spam. To be a 24 year old doctor you would have completed college, med schools, and internship in 6 years. That’s not just spam, that’s stupid spam.

    • To be fair (I didn’t see said SPAM as someone else’d already eaten it.), you’ve been able to complete med school in 6 years for around a decade now because of fast-track programs.

In addition, some med students consider themselves “doctors” at the point they begin internship.

  • Just so you know before insulting Bonnie’s mouth which tons of Brits have horrible teeth so I don’t know what you’re on-
but anyway Bonnie’s teeth have been corrected, she had lengugal(i know i spelled it wrong) brackets or something last year. Its all cured now.

    • I don’t think there’s anything wrong with her teeth, she just moves her mouth funny when she talks. Not unlike someone who’s had a stroke (nothing against them, either).
