Octomom Is Going on Welfare

A photo of Nadya Suleman

Ooh, shocking, right? No, not that Nadya “Octomom” Suleman is going on welfare, but that she hasn’t been on it for a few years already. I mean, she’s a single mother of fourteen children with serious money problems. Being on welfare wouldn’t be the most ridiculous thing in the world. Or would it?

From TMZ:

Octomom is doing what she swore she would never do — go on welfare … TMZ has learned.

The mother of 14 is getting $2,000 a month from the State of California.  The money is deposited directly into a special debit card account (see above).  The card can ONLY be used for food — and it’s closely monitored by the State to make sure the cardholder isn’t making illegal purchases — i.e., buying a bike at Costco.

It’s a cruel twist, for a woman who vowed in 2010 — a year after giving birth to octuplets — she would NEVER go on welfare, saying she refused to become “a self-fulfilling prophecy” by accepting government assistance.

Octo qualified for the card because her income is less than  $119,000 a year …. and a family of 15 that makes less than that amount is entitled to welfare benefits.

In case you’re wondering, the $119,000 figure is based on an average of just under $8,000 for each member of the household.  The more kids, the more you can make and still receive welfare.

We’re told the cash-strapped mom has taken  her children out of private school, except for her one son who has autism, saving her $4,000 a month.  And as we first reported, she’s even posing topless to make ends meet.  But it just wasn’t enough.

It’s a sad story, but one we saw coming from a mile away.

Oh, so she said that she would never go on welfare after giving birth to eight babies in addition to her other six? Totally makes sense. What also makes sense is that I tried to find the original story where Nadya said this, and I found this article from Celebitchy that says that yes, she did say that she wasn’t on welfare, but she also doesn’t seem to think that food stamps and disability payments count. Right.

Ok, now here’s the fun part: what do you think about this? On one hand, these are fourteen kids that never did anything wrong, and they deserve to have their basic needs met. On the other hand, Nadya had this many kids on purpose, and now she’s getting paid $2,000 a month for it.

How very complicated Octomom has made our world.

    • Uh…she’s the one who chose to do this on her own. There’s no laying off when WE THE TAXPAYERS are shilling to pay for her selfishness and stupidity.

There’s really no right answers in this mess. You can’t NOT let her go on welfare, otherwise those damn kids will starve. You can’t go in a bust up a home (albeit, dysfunctional) because of her selfishness and yet, making all of us pay for her fuckery seems somehow wrong as well. It’s frustrating. People like her are such menace, leeching off of society when she doens’t have any business having kids in the first place.

  • “We” pay for other people’s mistakes all the time. I would rather spend $2,000/month to feed children than the billions that we spent bailing out Wall Street. I consider it a bargain.

  • Oh please, that is such an invalid argument. I didn’t say that I was happy about bailing people out on WS, so that’s just a cop-out. I don’t like having to pay for inmates to received medical treatment either…it still has nothing to do with the topic at hand. So, try to stay on topic if possible.

And I JUST SAID there isn’t a right answer in this whole equation, nor did I say that I didn’t want to pay for kids that need it. However, this woman behaved selfishly and stupidly when she went off and decided that despite having a husband (who had additional income), or a job of her own, or an adequate support network, she would go ahead and have 14 kids because SHE WANTED THEM. It’s bullshit that because she acted so foolishly that WE need to now pick up the slack where she swore we (the taxpayer) would never have to.

  • Just another parasite aided and abetted by the voting public. Nothing to see here, move along, move along.

  • um…. she could afford to send her village of kids to private school but can’t afford to pay rent and feed them… Common sense not everyone has it

  • $2,000 a month that can only be used for food is not getting a luxury ride through life. The children are here and they have to be fed. Their mom is unable to care for them on her own. They might be better off in foster care, but either way they will need public assistance. That’s what it’s for.

  • How about the state takes her children away and puts them into homes where people want and can raise them, being that she purposely conceived these kids? Or how about having the doctor that did her procedure (basicially fathering them) pay child support? I dont even live in California…but my god LEAVE the TAX PAYERS out of it.

  • This is really hilarious that she’s on welfare now…I can imagine her thinking “Oh, I should have maybe nailed a good paying job or figured something out before I had 1,000 kids.”

That being said, where’s everyone’s outrage when this happens every fucking day in the projects? There are women who are no older than 18 who have 6 children (many of whom we have seen plow through our office) who are all unemployed, unmarried, on welfare and smoke weed. Bravo, fuckers. There are so many leeches in society today that this bitch is just another one to add to the list.

  • Even if the kids went into foster homes the family who received each child would be getting that money. She has no way to support them and no one to help her willingly, so of course it falls to the rest of society. Maybe there should be restrictions on fertility treatments.
