Quotables: Deadmau5 Calls Madonna Out for Being a Tool

“Very classy there madonna. ‘HUR DUR HAS ANYONE SEEN MOLLY???’ such a great message for the young music lovers at ultra. Quite the f’n philanthropist. but hey, at least yer HIP AND TRENDY! f*cking cant smack my head hard enough right now.”

This was DJ Deadmau5’s response to a question Madonna asked the audience at the Ultra Music Festival this past weekend in Miami, which is … well, this:

“How many people in this crowd have seen molly?”

Now, I’m not going to pretend to be all-knowing about the intricacies of drug slang, nor will I pretend that I’ve ever done ecstasy, but apparently “molly” is a term for MDMA, which is the main ingredient in ecstasy, the drug most popular among club-goers who are into that sort of thing. Me, I’ve never done ecstasy, because I was always of the opinion that there are just certain things that shouldn’t happen to a body, like drug-induced tremors, paralysis, and/or muscle deterioration, but apparently Madonna likes to pander to all types. Especially ones who both do and do not use British accents when they speak, and those who think it’s cool when a woman who’s almost retirement age refers to concertgoers as “motherf-ckers” because it’s the hip thing to call people you don’t know, motherf-cker.

Anyway. Here’re some more choice phrases Deadmau5 spewed about Madonna:

“Seriously, i giveth not a f-cking single F-ck for slating on madonna for reaching an entirely NEW level of idiocy … i can appreciate her meteoric career, and all good deeds done, but WHAT THE F-CK WAS THAT? That’s your big contribution to EDM? Thats your big message to ultra attendees? Hipster speak for looking for drugs? F-ck off you f-cking IDIOT. F-CK.”

But me, I just don’t know. I’m wondering if there’s some kind of secret message that we’re all not getting here. I mean, Madonna’s new album or whatever is called MDNA, which is awfully close to sounding like MDMA, and then you’ve got the “molly” reference that I wouldn’t have even caught if it weren’t for Deadmau5’s Facebook rant, but … I don’t know. Are we looking into something more than we should be? Did Deadmau5 make a mistake in hearing what Madonna had to say? Was Madonna quipping on the MDNA/MDMA similarity? Does she, like me, not realize what “molly” is, and if not, what the hell did she mean by “How many people in this crowd have seen molly” anyway?

So many questions, guys, and so few answers. Madonna hasn’t issued a statement, but I’m sure when she does, it’ll be long-winded, pretentious, and be spoken in a faux-British accent that makes you want to jam railroad spikes in your ears.

Check it all out at the :49 mark. Motherf-ckers.

  • I still think its lame if she named her album that close to a drug, even accidentally and was trying to make a pun out of it while on stage to a bunch of kids. Yeah, I said, it, Kids! Its called spotlight syndrome…when you think everyone cares as much as you do or see’s the same connections you do and they really don’t. All celebrities suffer from it and all celebrities get themselves in trouble by it.

  • Totally team Deadmau5 (a fellow Torontonian), Madonna is practically shitting all over EDM, yet trying to milk it for her new album (thanks to Avicii). Considering she’s over 50 and saying that, she should not only be ashamed of herself, but realize that trying to be “cool” and “hip” isn’t the way to go anymore; just because she was a pop star in the 80’s doesn’t mean she is anymore.

And as a person who has used recreational drugs, her advocacy on MDMA is disgusting. Her reference and use of the slang word just shows that people STILL don’t understand why others DO mdma or other drugs. UGH!

  • I can’t believe she has the title of her album printed across her chest. The “molly” comment was apropos of nothing. Probably just to prove she’s “still cutting edge,” which she isn’t. She’s had everyone’s ear for a couple of decades now, if she had evolved and grown she might still be interesting. But she has chosen to remain the same puff piece but now with some tarnish, cracks and chips. Sad.
