Rooney Mara Is Still Too Good for Every Job She’s Ever Had

A photo of Rooney Mara

Ugh, I absolutely hate it when this happens. Some fresh new face comes along, gets a big break, says something really, really dumb, then convincingly backpedals, only to say some more dumb shit. And I fall for it almost every single time, I do, because I want to believe that people are good and that they’re humble and grateful for everything they’ve been given.

But I was wrong, you guys. Rooney Mara actually is an insufferable girl who doesn’t appreciate any job she’s ever had. Check it out:

“You kind of learn to self-sabotage with things you don’t want to get. Sometimes you don’t want to get something but you do a really good job and you get in anyway. That’s kind of [what happened] with A Nightmare on Elm Street – I didn’t even really want it. And then I went in [to audition] and I was like, [whispering] ‘F*ck. I definitely got that’.”

And another little gem about the horrors of acting in A Nightmare on Elm Street:

“I didn’t want to act anymore. I was like, this isn’t what I signed up for. If this is what my opportunities are going to be like, then I’m not that interested in acting. So I was very discouraged and disheartened. And then I got the Social Network script. That kind of inspired me.”

Oh hell no, Rooney Mara. I know that you got that role in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and that everyone’s saying how wonderful and talented an actress you are, but you’re getting a little too big for your britches, ok? Nobody likes an arrogant, ungrateful actor, no matter how talented she is, so slow your roll, or else you’ll never work in this town again, you hear?

Incidentally, I browsed around to see if I could see any other recent stories about Rooney here, and you know what I found? She was recently, and without explanation, replaced in a movie called Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes:

Though Mara’s been attached to the project since February, Variety has learned that Kaya Scodelario has taken the part and will now play the lead in the project. The trade doesn’t say why Mara left the film. The film is being written and directed by Francesca Gregorini and is about a young girl who is hired by her neighbor – who looks exactly like the girl’s deceased mother – to babysit a child. The twist is that the child is actually just a life-like doll, but the girl goes along with the story and doesn’t shatter the neighbor’s delusion. The film would have been the second time Mara worked with Gregorini, as the filmmaker helmed the 2009 film Tanner Hall.

According to IMDB, Rooney has two projects in pre-production: Lawless in 2013 and “Untitled International Thriller” in 2012. That seems like it would make enough time to do a film she’s been attached to for basically the entirety of 2011, doesn’t it? Or do you get the sense that perhaps the director doesn’t want to work with Rooney again?
