Where I live there’s a scenic spot up the road called “Helen Hunt Falls”. I know it’s not named after the actress but I don’t have the guts to actually confirm that. Then I’ll have nothing.
Then you truly have nothing! Colorado springs is a shithole. Btw, the falls are named after Helen Hunt Jackson, an early activist on behalf of better treatment of Native Americans. Why don’t you read A Century of Dishonor, or at least hit the pioneer museum to learn a little local history. For christs sake, we had to do units on her in grade school, is district 11 in that bad of shape?
My elementary school field trips took me to salem witch trial reenactments, the battle of lexington and concord and plymouth rock. I must serve my time in the springs like every other new englander at CC. It’s been worth it.
Great school, and one of the only positive things in the springs. I miss poor Richards, jerrys sub shop, Jose muldoons, zebs, red top burgers, Freds bar in old Colorado city, murphys tavern, the golden bee, skiing on pikes peak when the road opened. Great things there, its too bad c/s sucks so badly. Btw, Helen hunt was so what in your neck of the woods, think she was from amherst.
Haha I will forever feel guilty about not knowing who this woman is. Looks like I’m going to the Pioneer museum this weekend. woohoo!
Is the statue of General Palmer still in the middle of Platte and Nevada? Almost got caught by the cops my senior yr putting a huge pumpkin on his head. Christ, 30 yrs ago…. Is the down under still there? What about G’s depot? I miss Colorado & some things in the springs. Enjoy the pioneer museum, its pretty tight.
Btw, sorry about the other reply…. What can I say, I’m a dick!
General Palmer is still in that intersection. My masshole driving skills can barely maneuver turning around that enormous thing. Also, I’ve seen a pumpkin on his head every Halloween for the past 4 years, so the tradition is still alive. As for the down under or G’s depot? I don’t think so. I can really only speak for the downtown area though so who knows what I’m missing.
The down under is a shitty little diner in the parking garage at the holly sugar building.G’s depot is Giuseppes depot on, if I remember correctly, Sierra madre just a block and a half west of the holly sugar building. Hit the mission bell inn in manitou, great food. Freds bar is cool & the majority of the bikers there are hip. Best mountaineering shop is mtn chalet, just down tejon from cc. Hit me at CosmicCharlie692003@yahoo.com for any other info on c/s. Enjoy cc!!
